  • Presented by a collaboration between SpringHill Suites Oceanside Beach and Delve Wellness. Join us for the purr-fect blend of movement, mindfulness, and meows at kitten yoga! Whether you're a seasoned yogi or just learning how to cat-cow, this all-levels class will leave you feline fine. While you practice your poses, a clowder of adorable rescue kittens will scamper and snuggle their way into your heart. It's equal parts yoga and cuddle-fest, and no one will fault you for skipping a lunge to love on our furry guests. These guys don't wait for an invitation to make your mat their own, requiring you to be mindful of where you step, sit, or lower down. Think of it as meowditation. All of the kittens are adoptable and hoping to find their furever home. And to make you feel even warmer and fuzzier inside, a portion of proceeds go directly to Furballs Furever, our pawsome rescue partner. Children ages 8+ welcome with a participating adult.
  • K. Wayne Yang, PhD | Professor, Ethnic Studies and Provost of John Muir College, UC San Diego Dr. Yang’s research and teaching interests focus on how our conception and experience of learning are shaped by settler colonialism. His recent book, "A Third University Is Possible," explores the historical legacy of the Morrill Land Act of 1862, by which acres of Indigenous lands were taken by governments in Union states to raise funds for new universities to educate settlers in agriculture and science. At USD, how can we hold ourselves accountable beyond land acknowledgements to the Kumeyaay people? He writes, "Within the colonizing university also exists a decolonizing education. A Third University is a practical workplace. We must go through the critique to get to the work."

  • Saturday, May 9 marks the 34th anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive, the nation’s largest one-day food drive. Each year on the second Saturday in May, letter carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by customers at their mailboxes. The food goes directly to the San Diego Food Bank and other local pantries to help families in San Diego County who are facing hunger. Over the past 30 years, the drive has collected more than 1.94 billion pounds of food nationwide. Yet the need remains high—over 47 million Americans, including 13 million children and 7.4 million seniors, experience food insecurity. The drive is especially important in spring, when many food pantries run low on supplies and school meal programs are unavailable to many children. How to help: Place a bag of non-perishable food by your mailbox on Saturday, May 9, 2026, and your letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it the San Diego Food Bank and other local food pantries. Together, we can help Stamp Out Hunger® National Association of Letter Carriers’ on Facebook / Instagram
  • A line that people sometimes remember regarding moderation belongs to Barry Goldwater: “Extremism in the pursuit of liberty is no vice, moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.” Although Goldwater’s skepticism toward moderation did not fare well in the 1964 presidential election, his words invite us to rethink the nature of moderation and examine who is afraid of this misunderstood virtue and why. In this Knapp Lecture, Aurelian Craiutu, Arthur F. Bentley Professor of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington, argues that moderation is a complex virtue with many ethical and institutional facets and a fascinating genealogy which is often neglected. His lecture will address the following questions: What kind of virtue is political moderation? What does it mean to be a moderate voice in politics? What are the limits and benefits of moderation? Can moderation be a winning card in our hyper-polarized political world?
