In this first discussion we will explore recent global, nature-based, and alien “Planetary Boundaries” (PBs), with the focus on the relationship between these. About our speaker: Joe has worked in over 50 countries teaching seminars and consulting with business and government leaders. He has led workshops at over a dozen universities in the US, UK, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East. He has decades of managerial business experience and has worked as a counselor for people with disabilities as well as with women and men affected by domestic violence. His educational background includes a Master of Science, Electronics Commerce; Bachelor’s in business administration from National University; and a Master of Arts, Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara. Joe has had long-standing interest in the environment and in 2018 completed the Climate Reality training held in Los Angeles, California.

Highlights this weekend include the spooky season installment of the Logan Ave. Artisan Market, which runs from noon to 6 p.m. near the VFW. Then, at Bread & Salt in Logan Heights, check out a risograph print pop-up from artist Philip Brun Del Re and new work in the Quint ONE space by Lisa Sigal. The annual Wildlife in Art show, hosted by the Foothills Art Association is one of Southern California's longest running show. The opening of this year marks our 35th consecutive year. All artists are invited to submit Wildlife art in various mediums. We anticipate over 100 submissions. Ken Goldman an internationally renowned wild life artist, author and teacher is this years juror. The show is from October 29th to December 4th. The awards reception will be on Saturday November 2nd from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Music will be performed by the Paul Marcus trio. Appetizers and refreshments will be served. Explore ceramic handbuilding & funky glazes! From 6-8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 12 In this 5-week series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional pieces with an emphasis on decorative techniques. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with underglazes, slips, glaze, and various experimental materials. Students will complete multiple projects throughout the course with an artistic and creative approach to decorative designs. Inspired by printmaking, painting and drawing, we will explore image transfers, mark making, layering, stencils, and more! Through the use of technique and materials, students will explore the fusion of 2D art and 3D form. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors through the course. The instructor will have a wide array of custom decorative materials for use and sale. All materials provided. Additional materials available via the instructor for a fee.
