From the organizers: Water for People San Diego Committee along with Avista and KSDS Jazz 88.3 are proud to present Jazz on Tap 2024, a charity Jazz concert to support Water For People, a global nonprofit promoting the development of high-quality drinking water and sanitation services. The jazz festival will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at the Quartyard. Doors open at 1:15 p.m., with live music starting at 2:00 p.m. grooving away until 8:40 p.m. There will be food, drinks and live high-energy jazz music, highlighting local artists in a fun outdoor setting. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door. Spreckels Organ Society – a non-profit organization curating concerts and performances in the heart of Balboa Park – is inviting the public for a one-of-a-kind Insiders Tour of the inner-workings of the iconic Spreckels Organ, as well as a special brunch, on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be a continental brunch, on-stage seating, and an exclusive performance by San Diego Civic Organist Raúl Prieto Ramírez, who is also the Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Curator Dale Sorenson will begin with an introduction on the mechanics of the Spreckels Organ, followed by the “Insiders Tour” of the Spreckels Organ (tour requires guests to be able to navigate stairs and tight spaces). This annual event is the only time the public will be allowed into the windchest while the organ is playing. Adams composed The Chairman Dances while working on his opera Nixon in China inspired by an image of Mao Tse-Tung dancing the foxtrot. A specialist in the works of living composers, Leila Josefowicz joins the Symphony for Adès’ modern masterpiece Concentric Paths, co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic by the composer who also has many ties to – and a strong history with – California. Written while he was living in the United States, Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 drew inspiration from African-American spirituals introduced to him by his then-student, the great pioneer of American music, composer Harry T. Oceanside Theatre Company’s Youth Academy returns this fall from September 3 to November 17 at the Brooks Theater for rehearsals for “The Addams Family.” Students ages 10-19 are invited to hone their acting, dancing and singing skills in this three-month musical theatre program. The Addams Family, a comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, features an original story in which Gomez Addams is forced to keep the secret from his wife about his daughter Wednesday, the princess of darkness, dating a regular guy.
