  • This free four-concert series held in July and August takes place right on Moonlight Beach on Sunday afternoons.   • About Amanda Portela Amanda started her musical career in San Francisco, she frequented many an open mic and one in particular at the 16th and Mission Bart Station. It was there that she was inspired to begin her path as a singer songwriter. A few years later Amanda found herself at Mesa College studying jazz and singing for the Mesa Big Band then later on joining a Congolese band in 2010 called Bateke Beat. Amanda’s musical endeavors lead her to performing at various clubs and festivals in San Diego. Portela, used her new found passion for singing Jazz and started a popular “Jazz Jam” at a Wine Bar in the heart of Hillcrest. Shortly their after, Amanda joined the Indie rock band by the name of Viva Apollo. Viva Apollo was notorious within the local San Diego music circuit, performing in all kinds of venues including a late night local cable access show, Tonight in San Diego.   • "20 Days in Mariupol" offers a harrowing account of the Ukrainian city under siege, revealing the critical work of journalists and the dangers they face in war-torn regions. Following the screening, a panel of speakers will discuss the role of journalists and writers, exploring the challenges and risks involved in their work, particularly in conflict zones. Amnesty International will also offer opportunities for attendees to support the work of journalists globally through letter-writing campaigns and petitions. This event aims to raise awareness about the vital role of a free press and encourage the community to advocate for journalists' safety and freedom. Refreshments will be served, and admission is free. This event is open to the public for ages 16 and up. We invite everyone to join us for an afternoon of powerful storytelling, insightful discussion, and community support for press freedom.   • The Murray Family is finally organizing, planning, coordinating and executing a long awaited celebration and appreciation gospel musical program for our Mom. In 2017, a proclamation made by the previously standing San Diego City Council President Myrtle Cole that on “October 13th is Ann Murray Day” indefinitely in “America’s Finest City of San Diego, California”. She organized, led and emceed numerous gospel programs/concert events, and introduced high-profile quartet gospel groups, choirs, praise teams and single artists to the San Diego local community, California State and nationwide highly notable gospel venues. She was also the first premier African American female gospel radio DJ in the 60s, 70s and 80s in San Diego, and was deemed “The Queen Of Gospel Radio” in The City of San Diego, California. She was also the founder and originator of the Gospel Music Day held at the San Diego Del Mar Fair every summer for years also introducing numerous groups and solo artists that is still being featured to this very day. For years Ms. Murray personally provided community outreach providing food and Easter baskets for numerous low-income families that were in dire need in the immediate San Diego area. Please participate in honoring of our mother who has given so much of herself to the city of San Diego, Los Angeles, the Golden State of California and the National Quartet Singing Alliance of America, Inc.
