  • Rumaan Alam’s previous novel was an inspired swirl of suspense, social commentary and apocalyptic disaster. His latest is about a young Black woman working for a uber-rich white philanthropist.
  • Nicole Kidman plays a high-flying, married businesswoman who begins an affair with an intern half her age. It's a lead performance more daring than the film itself.
  • Curated by: Yvette Roman and Natalia Ventura Cuéntame is an Far South, Border North campaign created by Yvette Roman and natalia ventura. The campaign aims to strengthen borderlands consciousness through intergenerational relationship-building, storytelling, and art-making. For our final exhibition we intend to display artwork, documentation and audio captured throughout 2023-2024. As a collective, Cuéntame invited emerging artists from San Diego and Tijuana to collaborate on an exhibition capturing the oral history of elders in our San Ysidro community living at Villa Merced. Nine emerging artists will display artwork at The Front Arte y Cultura. Six of the artists were selected through a call for entry, one is our Cuentame intern, and two are FS/BN grantees. Dates: Opening Reception: 5-7 p.m. June 1 Elder Brunch: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 Closing Reception: 6-8 p.m. June 7 Artist’s Statement: Yvette and natalia created Cuéntame as a way to honor the labor and legacy of elders in their San Diego border communities. Cuéntame is a community project that uses art as a method for capturing, archiving, and telling the stories of elders. The project aims to build generational bonds, pass on generational wisdom, strengthen a sense of belonging, and create meaningful opportunities for artists in our border community. Our hope is that the relationship formed between the artists, elders, and viewers in this process contributes to a stronger borderlands consciousness in each generation, and ultimately a more empowered border community. • July 9 – September 15, 2024 Lowell Davies Festival Theatre World premiere adaptation By William Shakespeare Adapted and directed by Barry Edelstein A once-in-a-generation event comes to San Diego in 2024: The Old Globe becomes one of only a small handful of theatres in the country’s history to complete Shakespeare’s canon with the two-part Henry 6, the largest Shakespeare production the Globe has ever presented. In Two: Riot and Reckoning, England descends into a bloody civil war. The York family is intent on overthrowing King Henry VI and claiming the throne for themselves. King Henry’s side, the House of Lancaster, refuses to give up the crown without a fight. Though the king himself prefers his books to the battlefield, Queen Margaret proves to be a fierce warrior, and the people of England clamor for change as leaders on both sides jockey for position and battle for power. The Wars of the Roses pit family against family in a cruel campaign that turns England upside down. Who will come out on top? Acclaimed Shakespeare director and the Globe’s Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein turns the rarely produced Henry VI, Parts I, II, and III into a thrilling two-part event, running simultaneously through the summer in our beautiful outdoor theatre. These adaptations include everything people love about the Bard—ingenious language, vibrant characters, breathtaking battles, and sweeping crowd scenes—as they explore the impact of national politics on individual lives. And the action is framed by a design team working at the very top of their craft, and a sprawling cast of professional actors and local community members. The Old Globe is celebrating this historic milestone with a yearlong program of citywide arts engagement and humanities events that bring audiences closer to the art than ever before, including opportunities for San Diegans to participate in the making of the production itself. It is an event that simply cannot be missed! This production includes violence.
