Lung cancer is still the top cancer killer, but new developments are shifting what the future might hold for patients.

"Inflection" brings together a series of works by Amanda Rybicki and Michael Rybicki, inspired by intersections of subjective realities, memory, and distorted experience. Interactive, analog sculptures explore how inputs derive changes, repetitive loops, or erosion. Mechanical systems with visible components driven by the viewer directly cause degradation, separation, or exhaust supply. Objects and jewelry explore elements of distortion. Subtle changes to form, pattern and texture invoke adaptations of autobiographical memory and shared reality, questioning ideas of authenticity and revision. This class meets weekly on Mondays, 3-4 times each month, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Ages 13+ welcome! Instructor-artist Lydia Kardos teaches this introductory ceramic handbuilding course for Teens. This month-long series is full of hands-on, hand building techniques in clay. Students will create functional and non-functional ceramic art. They’ll learn how to create with coils, slab construction and clay pinching methods. See the beauty of the final results as your pieces come out of the kiln. Students will create multiple pieces and learn how to glaze finished artwork. All materials included. Enjoy refreshments and experience a fast-paced and in-depth artwork critique of up to 10 juried artworks! Jurors Danielle Deery, Independant Curator; Patric Stillman, The Studio Door, Hillcrest; and Chris Padilla, The Athenaeum will select the works from submissions and will also run the in-person session. Art lovers and artists curious about the process of a professional critique are encouraged to attend the session for free as observers. The critique will be followed by a moderated audience Q&A session. The history of illuminated manuscripts is filled with beauty and intrigue. These hand-written books which were prized throughout Europe, had painted embellishments and often utilized precious metals such as gold and silver. The pages of these miniature works of art were made up of animal skins called vellum. Illuminated manuscripts were produced in Europe between 1100-1600, and often originated from monasteries or were commissioned by wealthy individuals who wanted them for their personal libraries. Between the 13th and 15th centuries, upper class patrons supported the creation of private workshops that flourished primarily in French and Italian cities and their surrounding courts such as Bruges. One has only to look at the masterpiece, "Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc De Berry" by the noted Limbourg Brothers, to understand how amazing and prized these handmade books became. By 1440 however, their popularity began to diminish with the ability to mass produce books with the advent of the printing press. In this docent-led virtual talk, important manuscripts will be discussed along with their influence on the art of the late Medieval and early Renaissance.
