Hosted by Scripps Cancer Center, this free class provides a 60-minute restorative yoga and sound therapy experience that focuses on relaxation and rejuvenation though body movement and music. Participants can choose to rest comfortably or gently move through simple stretches while receiving the healing benefits of sound from a variety of instruments: singing bowls, chimes, drums and gongs. Cushioned mats and bolster cushions are available for use. We recommend participants bring a yoga blanket or light covering. En Pointe for Ava is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children diagnosed with brain cancer. Our mission is to increase access to treatment for families with children diagnosed with life-threatening brain cancer. Pediatric brain cancer is a rare disease with only a few available clinical trail sites across the country - forcing many families to travel many miles each month. The financial devastation is significant and forces families to make unthinkable decisions. We know this struggle because Ava, our daughter, battled brain cancer for 21 months before laying down her sword when she passed away June 15, 2022. She was only 14 years old. She was also a beautiful and talented dancer with City Ballet of San Diego. En Pointe Against Brain Cancer is a performance at the Grand Ritz Theater in Escondido filled with dance and hope followed by a dessert reception and Ava's signature drink. Angela Meade (“the most talked about soprano of her generation” – Opera News) and renowned Mahler interpreter Anna Larsson join forces with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra for three performances of Mahler’s extraordinary and utterly overwhelming “Resurrection” Symphony, conducted by Music Director Rafael Payare with the debut of the San Diego Symphony Festival Chorus. One of the most spectacular and immersive pieces of orchestral music ever written, its performances here in our new hall are a marvelous way of marking our storied past and looking forward to a tremendous new history to come, as well as celebrating the growth and development of the San Diego Symphony. Mahler was born and raised in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and we begin this program with music by Austria’s leading composer of today, Thomas Larcher. His new piece, Time, co-commissioned by the SDSO and premiered by Rafael Payare in 2022, displays Larcher’s wonderful and highly attractive command of vivid symphonic color and exciting drama.
