Twilight in the Park Free Concerts 2024 season is starting June 18 with a double header. Child Prodigy Kahlil Childs and his jazz ensemble start at 4 p.m. followed by “The Pretenders” tribute band Pretending Chrissie at 6:30 p.m. This season offers a variety of music genres including rock and roll, jazz, country, blues, mariachi and orchestral music. Listen to music in an iconic setting at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. The free concerts start June 18 through August 29, (no concert on June 20) every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy these summer concerts with family and friends and don’t forget to bring a picnic. While mainly focused on Jazz in the Swing Idiom, Cobby’s is equally versed in a wide variety of musical genres ranging from Indie-Acoustic, R&B, Pop, etc.. Described as a vintage girl in a modern world, Cobby’s music possesses a natural gift for sensitive, relatable storytelling and is a blend of influences from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Helen Forrest, The Andrew Sisters and others, twisted with modern influences like Jason Mraz, Cyrille Aimee, and Post Modern Jukebox. “The Garners” is a modern vintage duo/trio that embraces gypsy jazz, 1920’s and 30’s jazz, blues, and folk. They are writers of music as well, and you will find that the inspiration behind their originals comes from these classic eras/genres. Raggedly sophisticated, The Garner’s mysterious sweetness will entrance even the most immovable listener. With Lorelei on Tenor Ukulele, Jon on Gypsy Guitar, and both singing from the deep wells of our booming hearts, our music will transport you back when times were harder, yet the good times, more colorful, vibrant, and bold. She’s a little bit country, he’s a little bit rock ‘n’ roll… well, sort of. Lorelei, vocals and ukulele, is a classically trained vocalist that has fallen in love with swing jazz and Americana. Jon, vocals and guitar, is a certified jazz nerd having fallen in love with Billie Holiday, Lester Young, and Charlie Christian at the age of 16. He also has a soft spot for roots music, especially Sonny Terry and Brownie Mcghee. They decided to make it easier to split the check and got married in October, 2015. Their whole life is music. They gig, teach, compose, and record. They can be found performing their blend of swing classics, gypsy jazz, Americana, and originals all over Southern California. This special occasion will also feature an exciting Book Fair, offering attendees the opportunity to explore a wide selection of French literature curated by Clotilde French Bookstore. After months of anticipation, Alliance Française San Diego is proud to showcase its new space, designed to enhance the experience of French language and culture enthusiasts in the San Diego area. The new location, conveniently located in University City, promises to be a vibrant hub for learning, cultural exchange, and community engagement. The Open House event on April 28 will provide an opportunity for the public to explore the new facilities, meet the team, and learn more about the diverse range of programs and activities offered by Alliance Française San Diego.
