Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) In partnership with University of California San Diego (UCSD) will offer Free workshops for Beat Making, composing, and podcast classes at the City Heights Idea Lab starting in July. The Beat Making class will have a stipend of $300 per session and film composing will have a stipend of $150. About Danny Guiterrez Daniel Zermeño Gutiérrez is a vocalist and pianist, composer and poet. Drawing from his diverse musical background in jazz & blues, bossa nova, boleros, and Bach, Daniel has been cultivating and refining his voice as an independent artist through years of study and practice. Daniel is trilingual, speaking English, Spanish, & Portuguese; over the years he has had the pleasure of studying with such artists as Becca Stevens, Jazzmeia Horn, Jane Monheit, Jacob Mann, Ramrio Gallo, and Bobby McFerrin. In 2022 Daniel visited Curitiba, Brazil to study Portuguese & Poetry with Pf. Pedro Souza and immerse himself in the country’s rich oral and musical tradition. Upon his return, Daniel channeled this newfound knowledge by serving as a vocalist, pianist, composer, arranger, & musical director for a variety of bossa-infused folk projects. We will start the class by learning basic lettering principles and utilize Posca pens to learn 2 different lettering styles: sans serif and script. By the end of the workshop, you will have the chance to personalize your own journal cover, applying the techniques learned throughout the session. City Tacos is hosting its grand 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday, May 4 at its Ocean Beach location OB Playground. Doors open an hour earlier than normal, at 10 a.m., and the family-friendly day includes complimentary face painting for kids, stilt walkers, a mariachi band, and a pug meet-up (the mascot of the eatery that first opened in North Park in 2014). All guests who bring a pug from 10 a.m. – Noon will receive a free taco. In addition, all guests can enjoy the 10th-anniversary special of two tacos and a beer for $10 throughout the day.
