  • Media Arts Center San Diego (MACSD) In partnership with University of California San Diego (UCSD) will offer Free workshops for Beat Making, composing, and podcast classes at the City Heights Idea Lab starting in July. Sessions Session 1: July 15 to August 5 Session 2: August 12 to September 2 Session 3: September 9 to September 30 The Beat Making class will have a stipend of $300 per session and film composing will have a stipend of $150.   • The Studio Door Gallery in Hillcrest and guest curator Kevin Winger bring you our April art exhibition. Artistic Alchemy: Abstract Innovations, a group show featuring the non-representational works of eight San Diego-based artists, Ansley Pye, Jamie Kaminscky, Jason Gould, Kevin Winger, Beate Bermann-Enn, Jill Joy, Wayne Hulgin, and Jeffrey Taylor. These talented painters and multimedia creators' innovative and chromatic works will be displayed from April 3rd through April 27th. The opening reception will be hosted on Friday, April 12th, from 6-9 p.m. and is open to the public. The exhibit will be open to all during regular business hours, Tuesday through Saturday. 11 a.m.-6 p.m., starting April 3rd.

  • Shelter to Soldier, a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become service dogs for post 9/11 veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI, Military Sexual Trauma, and or other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences, is pleased to announce their second annual ‘Sisterhood of Service’ event for women veterans and women in active-duty military. Presented by The Boeing Company and co-hosted by Foundation for Women Warriors, this event is a celebration of women veterans and women in active-duty military, honoring their dedication to our country. This event will be held on May 16 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the beautiful Mission Beach Women’s Club on Mission Bay. Attendees will enjoy an all-levels yoga flow along the bay lead by Veterans Yoga Project, followed by refreshments, resources for women veterans, a luncheon with inspirational guest speaker, goal-setting workshop, and swag bags for each guest. Guests will have the option to continue the fun after the event with a complimentary kayak or SUP rental on Mission Bay. Tickets are complimentary for women veterans and active-duty military, but RSVP is required. For more information or to sign up, please visit here. About Shelter to Soldier: Shelter to Soldier is a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become service dogs for post 9/11 veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI, Military Sexual Trauma, and or other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences. The program also places emotional support animals (ESAs) with active-duty military and veterans, as well as deploys the Shelter to Soldier Canine Ambassadors, a team of therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers, to provide visits of love and comfort to local military, veterans, and their families.
