  • The Spreckels Organ Society presents the 38th Annual San Diego International Summer Organ Festival, the largest organ festival in the United States, featuring the historic Spreckels Organ, the largest open-air musical instrument in the world, with 5,098 pipes of up to 32-feet long, and nine percussion instruments located throughout the building. The summer-long festival – directed by Raúl Prieto Ramírez, Spreckels Organ Society’s Artistic Director and San Diego’s Civic Organist – takes place in the heart of Balboa Park, from July 13 through Sept. 7. These 90-minute, free admission concerts by acclaimed international artists are brought to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion each Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. by the Spreckels Organ Society. The concerts are free thanks to the support of the Society’s sponsors, donors, members and volunteers. This season, the Monday evening concerts feature artists from five different nations, making it a truly international festival. The variety of concerts is broad with something for everyone.   • We are pleased to announce the dates for the 27th Athenaeum Summer Festival, a series of four concerts that will feature virtuoso pianist Gustavo Romero. Continuing a beloved tradition, this summer Gustavo Romero will celebrate what he notes as Romantic Fire and the Spanish Soul, through a focus on the piano music of Hungarian Franz Liszt, and will be combined with works by Spanish composers Albeniz, Granados, and Manuel De Falla.   • It’s fun in the sun at the City of Carlsbad’s Aloha Plunge. Enjoy island-themed pool games and activities, giant inflatables, the splash pad and more. End the night with a special Polynesian dance performance where the audience can learn the hula. Tickets are $15 per person. Kids ages 3 and under are free but still need to be registered. Pick up your wristbands in advance at Alga Norte Aquatic Center during the week before the event, to avoid lines. Food will be available for purchase. For safety reasons, only pool noodles and US Coastguard approved floatation devices are allowed in the pool. Online presale ends at 5 p.m. on the Friday before the event. You will be able to purchase wristbands at the event if the event is not sold out. Save time and avoid lines by picking up event wristbands in advance. Wristbands will be available for pick up starting the week before the event and are only available at Alga Norte Aquatics Center during regular business hours. All sales are final; no refunds. Wristbands that are picked up in advance and that are lost or not brought to the event will not be replaced. Event may modify or cancel due to inclement weather.
