Verbatim Books is bringing something new to North Park. Beginning this year, the North Park Community Fair will take place on the first Saturday of every month, transforming North Park Way from 29th Street to Ray Street into a rotating, community-centered street fair. Each month will feature a different theme designed to highlight the creativity, small businesses, and people that make North Park and San Diego so special. From creator and art fairs to community reading days, swap meets, and our much-loved Mini Book Fair and full North Park Book Fair, this ongoing series is about connection, collaboration, and celebrating the neighborhood we call home. We’re kicking things off with the return of one of last year’s most popular events: North Park Community Fair – Creator Fair Brought to you by Verbatim Books in collaboration with Visual Art Supply The Creator Fair is an all day celebration of local creativity, spotlighting artists, makers, small presses, zine creators, crafters, and independent creatives from across San Diego, with priority given to North Park–based creators. Casa Familiar is proud to announce the 19th annual Dia de la Mujer Exhibition, titled “Exquisite Potential: Surviving the 21st Century through Surreal Metamorphosis." The opening reception will take place on March 7, 5-7 p.m., at The FRONT Gallery in San Ysidro, California. Exquisite Potential, draws inspiration from the Surrealist movement of the 1920s-30s, where artists and writers explored metamorphosis as a process of collective mythmaking in order to push back against oppression, which included the rise of European fascism and the effects of Western imperialism. This exhibition brings together a wide array of international and local artists over several events to elevate the works of BIPOC women and non-binary artists from both sides of the border. More than a century later, anti-fascist and anti-imperialist methods rooted in a surreal metamorphosis must be re-examined and re-employed as strategies to confront present-day national/global authoritarianism and the complete disregard of human rights. By turning the familiar into the strange or the grotesque into the beautiful we are empowered by the ability to forge our own existence in whatever shape it takes. Have you ever seen a bird? Then you're already a birder! Join San Diego Bird Alliance for a fun and easy introduction to the world of birds. San Diego is one of America's "birdiest" counties, and we'll talk about what makes our region so special. You don't need to go far to experience this bounty, and we'll talk about how to spot and identify some familiar birds right in your own neighborhood. Along the way, we will learn about free resources like eBird, the Merlin Bird ID app, and ways to get plugged in with other local nature enthusiasts. This talk will be given in English, with English/Spanish resources available. All ages are welcome! Endometriosis affects at least 1 in 9 women and can cause a variety of burdening symptoms. Whether you know someone who has Endo, you're an Endo warrior yourself, or even if you've never heard about this condition before, all are welcome. Rays Your Vibe hosts events to meet people exactly where they are in their health journeys, empowering, inspiring, and educating one another along the way. We are stronger together as a community, so bring your friends, family, and loved ones to NTC Park (Preble Field) on March 14th. Since March is Endometriosis Awareness month - attendees are instructed to wear yellow.
