Based out of sunny San Diego, Gypsy Sally is a three piece blues band that brings the old school feel to the new age from blues, to rock with the occasional Bossa and Latin twist. Front man Kyler Jakubowski has utilized his North Carolina roots and over the years has created a very unique blues sound not heard since the 50’s, Austin Wagner links the rhythm and melody with his smooth motown influenced James Jameson style, and Martin Quezada holds the beat on drums with his Caribbean swing, all of which when brought together creates what is now known as the one and only Gypsy Sally. To date, Gypsy Sally has recorded one album, "How Long," recorded live in the studio with Alan Sanderson. Gypsy Sally is named after a bar in the song "Tecumseh Valley" by Townes Van Zandt. Apart from Van Zandt, the band is influenced by classic blues artists like B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, and Peter Green. First Thursdays Epic Poetry is a monthly series where we gather live on Zoom to read, discuss, and make sense of some of the longest living epics that have influenced literature, popular culture, and how we think about the past. Together, we will explore Homer’s the Iliad and then the Odyssey, and finally, ending our 10-month series with Beowulf. Thursday, April 18 — 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Learn the easiest way to paint beautiful florals and garden friends using the simple technique of brushstroke painting! It all comes down to exactly how to load your brush and then apply that to your surface. I will show you how to get that opaque look using a series of basic strokes that you build up together to get one cohesive look. In this class, you will learn how to use a round brush for every stroke to create pansies and a dragonfly. We will practice on my special reusable worksheets, and then move on to our project surface of a wooden Easter egg that you can display to showcase your work! All materials are included to complete the class. Come learn a new skill and bring out your creative side this year! Enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages. San Diego FC (SDFC) 2024 Chrome Ball Tour presented by Trust & Will is headed to the city of Chula Vista for the fifth and largest stop of the tour on Saturday, May 4. The Chrome Ball Tour in Chula Vista will kick off with a Chula Vista first responders tournament, featuring the Chula Vista Fire Department and players from the Chula Vista Police Department. The event will also feature a 3v3 street soccer tournament, a local car show, a Lucha Libre performance with Masked Republic, a San Diego FC Colors of the Community Fashion Show featuring a musical performance by Chula Vista natives Rossi Rock and Sebby OG, and musical acts featuring South Bay native DJ Beto Perez, world-renowned cumbia band Vilma Diaz y La Sonora, and San Diego native Lil Rob. Additionally, the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista will have a beer garden and a kids area that will include face painting, inflatables and more. The event is free to the public and will run from Noon to 10 p.m. PT. The artwork for the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista was created by local Chula Vista artists Josue Baltezar, Chikle! And Paola ‘Panca’ Villaseñor.
