Yet fundamental challenges remain in India’s development path. Thursday, April 18 — 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Learn the easiest way to paint beautiful florals and garden friends using the simple technique of brushstroke painting! It all comes down to exactly how to load your brush and then apply that to your surface. I will show you how to get that opaque look using a series of basic strokes that you build up together to get one cohesive look. In this class, you will learn how to use a round brush for every stroke to create pansies and a dragonfly. We will practice on my special reusable worksheets, and then move on to our project surface of a wooden Easter egg that you can display to showcase your work! All materials are included to complete the class. Come learn a new skill and bring out your creative side this year! Enjoy complimentary snacks and beverages. San Diego FC (SDFC) 2024 Chrome Ball Tour presented by Trust & Will is headed to the city of Chula Vista for the fifth and largest stop of the tour on Saturday, May 4. The Chrome Ball Tour in Chula Vista will kick off with a Chula Vista first responders tournament, featuring the Chula Vista Fire Department and players from the Chula Vista Police Department. The event will also feature a 3v3 street soccer tournament, a local car show, a Lucha Libre performance with Masked Republic, a San Diego FC Colors of the Community Fashion Show featuring a musical performance by Chula Vista natives Rossi Rock and Sebby OG, and musical acts featuring South Bay native DJ Beto Perez, world-renowned cumbia band Vilma Diaz y La Sonora, and San Diego native Lil Rob. Additionally, the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista will have a beer garden and a kids area that will include face painting, inflatables and more. The event is free to the public and will run from Noon to 10 p.m. PT. The artwork for the Chrome Ball Tour stop in Chula Vista was created by local Chula Vista artists Josue Baltezar, Chikle! Valley Arts Festival (VAF) is an annual celebration of Oceanside and its first peoples, today known as the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians, one of the seven tribes of the Luiseño nation. The Luiseño are an indigenous people of California who inhabited the coastal area of Southern California. This year’s free family-friendly festival, themed “Kíicha Nights, Coyote Dreams© “, expands upon the success of the last three years, and will feature even more activities and vendors. VAF is made possible in part by Prebys Foundation and Title Sponsorship by Visit Oceanside. Fixing the misfolded proteins that cause dementia and heart failure - Front Row lecture with Jeffery Kelly, PhD Description: All proteins have a correct way of “folding” themselves into their three-dimensional structures. When this folding process goes awry, including processes leading to protein misassembly, a number of devastating diseases can result. In this free Front Row lecture, Scripps Research professor Jeffery Kelly will share how he is developing novel therapeutic strategies to target these protein misfolding diseases, which lead to deterioration of the heart and brain. His multi-disciplinary research has already led to the development of an FDA-approved drug available in the pharmacy called tafamidis (Vyndaqel® and Vyndamax®): a medicine that slows the progression of the neurodegenerative disease familial amyloid polyneuropathy and the degenerative heart disease called TTR cardiomyopathy. Honoring Sara Brown, Debbie Kornberg, Vered Libstein, Rabbi Devorah Marcus, Bev Pamensky, and Dr. Barbara Parker. “A woman of valor, who shall find?” asks the famous psalm. These 6 inspiring women have made unique contributions to our community. JFest celebrates their lives and accomplishments. Directed by Ali Viterbi Written by Sarah Price Keating, Rebecca Myers, Todd Salovey, and Ali Viterbi Debbie Kornberg is a spice expert and entrepreneur. She owns SPICE + LEAF and teaches weekly Spice It Up with Deb: A Live Cooking Experience workshops. Dr. Barbara Parker is a professor emerita in the Department of Medicine at UCSD and a medical oncologist at UC San Diego Health. She was the medical director of oncology services and senior deputy director of Cancer Medicine at Moores Cancer Center. Rabbi Devorah Marcus has been the senior Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El since 2013. Bev Pamensky is the Executive Director of the Kindness Initiative, an organization dedicated to alleviating poverty in the San Diego Jewish community. Sara Brown is the San Diego regional director of the American Jewish Committee. She was previously the Executive Director of the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights, and Genocide Education, and managed post-secondary education programming for USC Shoah Foundation. She also conducted research and wrote a book on the Rwandan genocide. Vered Libstein is a survivor of the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel. Her husband, Ofir Libstein, was the mayor of San Diego's sister city Sha'ar HaNegev, and he (along with their son, her mother, and her nephew) was murdered on October 7.
