  • In this two-hour workshop honoring Hispanic Heritage Month, participants will explore craft and folklore by creating an Alebrije-inspired piñata. The workshop will cover assembling a cardboard structure and traditional tissue paper decorating techniques used in piñatas. Diana Benavidez is a Binational artist from the San Diego/Tijuana border region. Her art practice explores piñata-making as a method of expression and storytelling. Diana builds piñatas that reflect her experiences growing up as Latinx in the Mexican-American militarized border. Her work is characterized by introducing materials not commonly found in traditional piñatas such as media and gadgets. ArtReach San Diego on Facebook / Instagram
