The Murray Family is finally organizing, planning, coordinating and executing a long awaited celebration and appreciation gospel musical program for our Mom. In 2017, a proclamation made by the previously standing San Diego City Council President Myrtle Cole that on “October 13th is Ann Murray Day” indefinitely in “America’s Finest City of San Diego, California”. She organized, led and emceed numerous gospel programs/concert events, and introduced high-profile quartet gospel groups, choirs, praise teams and single artists to the San Diego local community, California State and nationwide highly notable gospel venues. She was also the first premier African American female gospel radio DJ in the 60s, 70s and 80s in San Diego, and was deemed “The Queen Of Gospel Radio” in The City of San Diego, California. She was also the founder and originator of the Gospel Music Day held at the San Diego Del Mar Fair every summer for years also introducing numerous groups and solo artists that is still being featured to this very day. For years Ms. Murray personally provided community outreach providing food and Easter baskets for numerous low-income families that were in dire need in the immediate San Diego area. Sasha specializes in elder financial abuse, investigation and prosecution of elder fraud cases in federal court. This is a story with a chorus of women’s voices that speak of bittersweet stories about everything from motherhood, wardrobe malfunctions, experiences in the dressing room, divorce, grief, cancer, and other matters of the heart using clothing as a metaphor for women’s experiences. If there is one thing, the female species has in common is a deep and abiding love/hate relationship with their wardrobe. Explore the sense of touch through artworks that generate a sensory experience, and consider how these works exist within the confines of an art museum where touch is not encouraged. Then, we will guide you through creating a tactile piece and learn the basics of casting. We will draw inspiration from Kelly Akashi’s "Cultivator" (2021), which highlights her interest in fluid, impressionable materials and old-world craft techniques, and Robert Irwin’s "1°2°3°4°" (1997), which uniquely engages many senses at once. "Reflections" is an art-making workshop series designed to serve adults 55 and older. Session 4: December 1 & December 8 In this workshop series participants will explore how ideas about the body integrate into contemporary art. Through close looking, we will engage with artworks where the body is present, and where its notable absence invokes the body. Each workshop will include an investigation of contemporary art-making techniques and materials. No prior art experience is required. Transportation will be provided, if required. Participants may join one session (two days) or more!
