Third Sunday Craft is a monthly gathering of creative writers that fosters support, inspiration, and community. More than craft classes, Third Sunday Craft will help you construct and sustain a writing practice. New focus topics for each session will challenge writers to explore and expand their craft. Generative writing prompts will encourage you to grow and learn in exciting new ways. Sharing your work within a safe, supportive community will help you discover and strengthen your voice. From the organizers: San Diego Dance Theater annually seeks newly emerging dancemakers to participate in the Emerging Choreographers Showcase & Awards, a competition that awards three prizes to participants: Best Overall Choreography, Best Dancer, and Audience Favorite. This exhilarating show is a beloved staple in San Diego, with its main purpose being to bring exposure and support to growing choreographers in the community. In 2023, we removed the age requirements to include dancemakers who emerge at any age in life. Read about the 2024 finalists here. About the showcase and awards: San Diego Dance Theater is thrilled to present the annual Emerging Choreographer's Showcase & Awards! The event formerly known as Young Choreographer's Showcase & Prize has evolved to reflect the agelessness of dance and support the pursuit of growth at any point in life. There is no longer a maximum age limit for eligibility, and we hope to see even more incredible dancing and dance-making! Finalists will compete for three prizes, as voted on by YOU, the audience, and the panel of judges. Grand prize is $1000 and a night in Live Arts Fest 2024 awarded to "Best Overall." "Best Dancer" and "Audience Favorite" both receive a $500 prize, with "Best Dancer" also receiving an invitation to dance at a future SDDT event. The American Library Association (ALA) is hosting its 2024 Annual Conference & Exhibition through July 2 at the San Diego Convention Center, 111 Harbor Dr, San Diego. This is the largest library event in the world and for the next five days thousands of librarians and library workers (included 330 from the San Diego Public Library) will connect with authors, publishers, educators and vendors to take part in education, discussions and sharing resources on the most urgent topics facing libraries today including book banning, artificial intelligence, and intellectual freedom. Over 500 speakers and authors will be featured including Trevor Noah, Taraji P. Henson and Anika Noni Rose.
