Nancy Pelosi opens up about wielding power — and what she was doing in the days leading up to President Joe Biden announcing he was abandoning his race for a second term

This exhibit features the work of two MiraCosta College Art Faculty: Ryan Gray and Dean Ramos. Gray's work is often an attempt to shed light on the devastation that nuclear and chemical contamination has on our bodies and environments. Ramos uses a variety of materials to create artworks that range from abstract explorations of materials and forms to depictions of the body that investigate psychological and emotional states. This will be held at the Kruglak Gallery, at the Oceanside Campus (OC3400). The gallery will be closed November 23 & 24. For more information please visit miracosta.edu/gallery

Join us for a live performance by bassoonist Joy Guidry of new work AMEN. Entry will be located at the ocean-facing side of the Museum (650 Coast Boulevard South). It’s an intense, vulnerable work that demands equally thoughtful attention and engagement." –Allison Hussey, Pitchfork Radical self-love, compassion, laughter, and the drive to amplify Black artmakers and noisemakers comprise the core of bassoonist and composer Joy Guidry’s work. Their performances have been hailed by The San Diego Tribune as “lyrical and haunting…hair-raising and unsettling.” Joy was born in 1995 in Houston, Texas, into a creative family that played a big part in who they’ve become today. A versatile improviser and a composer of experimental, daring new works that embody a deep love of storytelling, Joy’s music channels their inner child in honor of their ancestors and predecessors. In addition, Joy seeks to support, hire, and promote Black artists in every aspect of their practice. The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library welcomes Anne Labovitz for a special presentation of her career, process, recent projects, and exhibition "The Blue Hour." The reception begins at 6 p.m. and is followed by a 6:30 p.m. lecture. Inspired by the blue cast of twilight, Anne Labovitz uses light and its profound meanings in various contexts as the central construct of "The Blue Hour." She aims to respond to today’s world by challenging isolation, loneliness, and disconnection through activating color and light in large-scale works. Labovitz has an extensive international exhibition history and has work in many private and public collections, including the Walker Art Center; Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport; Mayo Clinic; Minnesota Marine Art Museum; International Portrait Gallery, Bosnia-Herzegovina; Växjö Konsthall, Sweden; Isumi City Offices, Japan; the University of Raparin, Rania Iraqi Kurdistan; the City of Petrozavodsk, Russia; and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library. She is an adjunct professor and mentor in the MFA program at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
