  • Join us for a special screening of "In the Heights" in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month as part of OTC at the Brooks' "Arts Unite" series. Created by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes, this acclaimed musical is set in New York's vibrant Washington Heights neighborhood, where a close-knit community dreams of a brighter future while celebrating family, culture, identity, and belonging through unforgettable music and dance.   • Hosted by Rose Machado, daughter of legendary surfer Rob Machado, Surf Sessions will transform Temaki Bar into a lively gathering with a DJ set by KOKO, a local artist known for spinning disco, funk and house music. Attendees will also have the chance to win gift cards to Temaki Bar, Lionfish Modern Coastal Cuisine in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter and Serẽa Coastal Cuisine at the Hotel Del Coronado, as well as branded swag. Temaki Bar, a Clique Hospitality concept, was named Best of North County 2024 for both sushi and seafood restaurants.   • Logan Heights Community Development Corporation invites San Diegans of all ages to help create history at the free CommUnity Mural Project Kick-Off on Saturday, Aug. 15. Community members will have the opportunity to paint alongside local artists through a guided paint-by-numbers experience and help bring one of Greater Logan Heights’ largest public art installations to life. The event will begin with a Kumeyaay blessing to celebrate the start of a community-driven mural project more than four years in the making. No art experience is needed — just bring your creativity! Attendees can participate in mural painting, enjoy live music from local DJs, explore youth art activities, connect with neighborhood organizations and receive free lunch. Led by Logan Heights CDC in partnership with Caltrans, SANDAG, and the City of San Diego, the CommUnity Mural Project will create two large-scale murals, transforming the underutilized gateway beneath the Interstate 5 and State Route 15 overpasses along Imperial Avenue into a vibrant public space, preserving the stories, traditions, and culture of Greater Logan Heights.
