  • Note: Though this class is offered as part of the Novel Writing Certificate Program, there is no pre-requisite to join this class. All students, members, and nonmembers are encouraged to enroll. So you’ve finished writing your novel — what next? What do published novelists do between that raw first draft and the final manuscript to make their plots sizzle and their prose sing? The key lies in reworking your manuscript until your writing jumps off of the page. If you have completed the first draft of a novel, this workshop will help you develop skills to shape your plot for maximum dramatic impact and give life and texture to characters, dialogue, and setting. Note: There will be no class on Saturday, November 1st. Thank you for your understanding! San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram

  • Ekphrastic poets find their inspiration in the visual. Their poems imagine, describe, or expand upon the “story” of an image or work of art. Every ekphrastic poem is its own work of art, separate but related to the visual inspiration. In this workshop, you will learn about well-known and not-so-well-known ekphrastic poems, and you will learn a methodology so that you can confidently approach this exciting cross-genre space. You will work in the Inspirations Gallery and create one or more unique poems. You will have the option to share your work aloud, as well as past poems, in a book in the gallery. Sharing is NOT required but an option for anyone who’d like to do it. San Diego Writers, Ink on Facebook / Instagram

  • Learn to throw ceramics on a wheel! Saturdays, October 25, November 1, 8, 22, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., with the last class of the series from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. In this 4-week course, 3-hour per class series, you’ll build a strong foundation in working with clay on the pottery wheel. Instructor Shachi Shah will teach you how to prepare clay, center it on the wheel, and create forms like cylinders, bowls, and mugs. You’ll also be introduced to trimming techniques and adding surface details like handles and texture. After a break to allow your work to be bisque fired, you’ll return for the final session to glaze and complete the cycle from raw clay to finished ceramic. This is a slow-paced, supportive class where exploration and experimentation are encouraged. Whether you’re brand new to clay or returning after a break, you’ll be guided at your own rhythm — with plenty of space to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow your confidence on the wheel. Projects will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome.
