  • PRESENT TENSE ARTIST TALKS are quarterly events hosted by Medium Photo that spotlight emerging voices in photography. Each program begins with a public portfolio walk, where eight artists share a recent photographic project in an informal, conversational setting. From there, four photographers are selected to deliver 15-minute artist talks, offering deeper insight into their work and creative process. During each talk, artists present a single body of work projected on screen, bringing their images to life through personal reflections on process, ideas, and stories. Each presentation concludes with an open Q&A, giving the audience a chance to connect directly with the artist. Medium Photo on Facebook / Instagram

  • This exhibition will explore art that has emerged from the surf-culture lifestyle and surfing’s influence on artists. Everyone who has experienced the feeling of riding a wave understands just how hard it is to describe that incredible sensation, referred to as “stoke”. It seems that only through creative self-expression can surfer-artists capture the essence of stoke and the inspiration that can be found between the surfer and the wave. Artists who surf may take this creative energy in many directions and may explore subjects outside of surfing and surf culture. This joint exhibition will feature a variety of media, from traditional art making methods to works in resin, murals, surfboards, graphic art, sculpture, or fabric, all with the goal to convey the creative power that all artists experience, on or off the wave. • FREE Preview of "Third Person" at City Heights Performance Annex Thursday, August 14th at 6 p.m. Join us for a special preview performance of "Third Person", a compelling new play by acclaimed playwright Catherine Filloux. Admission is free and open to the public. Told entirely through letters, emails, and dictated messages, "Third Person" is an epistolary play that centers on Octavio, a passionate high school student; Diane, his mother, an English teacher and poet; and Robert, a CEO of a defense conglomerate and a parent at Octavio’s school. What begins as a personal inquiry transforms into a deep exploration of silence, complicity, and the demand for accountability. This innovative production model reflects Filloux’s vision for the play to be adaptable—from venues serving underserved communities to major theatrical institutions—for one or multiple performances. This preview is co-produced and directed by Maya Flores and co-produced by Naomi Schneider, who also serves as the dramaturg. We invite audiences to witness this timely, thought-provoking piece and engage with the questions it raises about power, privilege, and responsibility in today's world.
