  • Setting provides a reader with a sense of place, and without that…there is no story. Setting is also the time and environment the story exists in. It establishes the mood and reveals characters, conflicts, and themes. Settings can shape, influence, and change characters. Detailed descriptions about personal spaces inform the reader about the characters who inhabit them. The setting can even be its own character! This workshop addresses the crucial role of establishing settings for both fiction and non-fiction. We will write from prompts to set our characters in settings that establish place, moods, and themes. We will also write scenes within settings. For new and experienced writers!
