Campana Studios is excited to present ‘Feral’, an upcoming show of paintings by Elizabeth Brown at Perspectives Space, July 20th-August 1st, with an artist’s reception on July 20th from 6-9pm. Elizabeth Brown is a California based artist who explores the relationship between personal narrative and visual engagement. Her playful, expressive and colorful paintings reveal the tension between freedom and control, as well as thought and emotion, the physical and ephemeral. In these vibrant paintings, Elizabeth has multiple vantage points, seeing her world and the world of others, both predator and prey, to create dynamic compositions. Campana Studios is a San Diego based visual arts non-profit that creates dynamic platforms for artists to engage within our communities. San Diego Gas & Electric and the region's two Community Choice Aggregators — Clean Energy Alliance and San Diego Community Power — announced Thursday the launch of the state's first integrated customer portal.

St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will host its inaugural Pickleball Tournament on April 19, 2024 at San Diego Mission Bay Resort. The community is invited to join for a fun day by the bay with some friendly competition. Pickleball is a fast-growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Popular for its fast pace and exciting nature, the game is accessible to players of all ages and skill levels. Spectators are welcome to attend and cheer on the players, enjoy complimentary food, and participate in the opportunity drawing to win prizes. The event is open to players at all skill levels, from first timers to experienced pickleball players. The first session will begin at 9 a.m. with an introductory lesson taught by an experienced pickleball instructor for first-time and novice players. The lesson will be followed by an interactive game for participants at this level. The second session will begin at 11 a.m. for experienced players. This session’s tournament will be round-robin format, with each competitor playing in turns against each other. Paddles will be provided for all participants. The tournament will raise funds for SMSC’s nationally recognized innovative programs, such as the Activity Center, Adult Developmental Center, Behavior Modification Program, and Senior Program. The center’s “Life Program” allows students to develop creative outlets, learn marketable skills, and gain a sense of independence and self-esteem. Over 400 students attend SMSC, ranging from high school graduates to seniors in their eighties. Registration is open now for participation and spectating. The “Pleasure of Your Company” music series will welcome clarinetist Vladimir Goltsman and pianist Dmitry Kirichenko on Sunday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. Join us for a delightful afternoon of music for clarinet and piano including works from the Baroque through Romantic eras and beyond. A native of Russia, Vladimir Goltsman was trained at the Gnessin Music Institute of Moscow, where he studied with with the renowned Maestro, Professor Ivan Mozgovenko. He was a soloist for the Theater of Experimental Music in Moscow and a member of the Soloist Ensemble of “Moscow Sinfonieta.” He performed as soloist and principal clarinet of the Orquestra de Baja California, Mexico and with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. A versatile musician, he has also played with the Wayne Foster Music and Entertainment orchestra/band and served on the faculty of The Bishop’s School, where he mentored the school orchestra and jazz band. Well loved by Scripps Ranch audiences, Dmitry Kirichenko is a graduate of the Moscow and Odessa Conservatories. He has performed throughout western and eastern Europe and the San Diego area. His playing, described by Paris music critic Claude Taelman as “warm sensitivity heightened by his delicate touch and great technical mastery,” is a perfect match for the Library’s fine Schimmel piano. There is no charge for the concert, which is sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library, although donations are appreciated. Masks are recommended but not required at this time. Miramar Ranch Library Center is located at 10301 Scripps Lake Drive. It should be noted that due to a parking lot expansion project, onsite parking is currently somewhat limited. Ted Olson, the Bush-era solicitor general, has died at age 84. He was a towering figure in the legal profession who argued 65 cases at the Supreme Court as solicitor general and as a private lawyer.
