Nestled under the umbrella of the North County LGBTQ Resource Center, Pride by the Beach is a program that will shelter you from any storm. Our mission is to serve, empower and advocate for San Diego North County's diverse LGBTQIA+ community. We have worked tirelessly for more than 10 years to accomplish this goal. The lifesaving services and programs we’ve created have helped thousands of LGBTQIA+ people. We are extremely proud that since the beginning of the COVID-19 global pandemic, Pride by the Beach has never closed its doors, and has in fact, increased its services to the community. Our reach extends to over 13 cities in the North San Diego region, as well as Camp Pendleton. Some of the programs we have to offer include mental health resources, support groups for our transgender friends, HIV prevention and care, and transitional housing for youth at risk for homelessness. Restoring this unique annual event is the collaborative team of The House of Scotland, Storytellers of San Diego, and the Scottish Highland Games. Folkloric stories from the islands and highlands of Scotland highlight the whimsy and pathos of the culture, while enchanting all from ages twelve and up. To combat ongoing summer hunger, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank partners with the San Diego Public Library to help bridge the meal gap for students and families who rely on free meals during the school year and ensure no one goes hungry. Through the San Diego Food Bank’s summer meals program and its continued collaboration with local partners, families can find nourishment and support in their own neighborhoods. Ten meal sites across the region are offering free food distributions to any San Diego youth aged 0 to 18, beginning June 3 through Aug. 27. There are no income requirements, ZIP-code restrictions, or identification needed, and meals will be offered to residents even if they are not enrolled in summer programming. Meals include fresh produce, proteins, and shelf-stable items such as rice, pasta, canned goods, granola bars, milk, juice, and peanut butter. They are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
