The Salty Series: Estate Sale is an interactive and immersive installation and performance curated by filmmaker and multimedia artist Valerie Jackson. Conceived and created by Jackson in collaboration with composer Sebastian Sack and animator Kai Tattersall, “Estate Sale” is a multimedia installation that combines video, music, live performance, photography, and personal memorabilia to create a surreal reconstruction of the artist’s apartment in Los Angeles, immersing the audience in an intimate experience of memory. The installation is open from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., and audience members are invited to come, explore at their own pace, enjoy a beverage, and immerse themselves in a world of nostalgia, reflection, and discovery. Influenced by her work in the film industry and the creative culture of young filmmakers in Los Angeles, Jackson blends illustration, collage, and photography to explore the blurred lines between fiction and reality in everyday life. “Estate Sale” presents city scenes and characters through a cartoonish lens, using iconic American imagery and accessible materials like acrylic paint, cardboard, and digital photography to evoke familiarity. Collaborating with Kai Tattersall, she incorporated personal photos and textures to build the world of the apartment, while Sebastian Sack’s music, featuring samples and pop references, creates an intimate sound environment. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Liberation Day, is an American holiday celebrated annually on June 19. It is the oldest, national commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the U.S. This year marks the 157th anniversary of when Union Major General Gordon Granger landed at Galveston, Texas, with the news that the Civil War ended and that enslaved people were now free. This announcement was more than two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth offers each of us the opportunity to acknowledge hard truths from U.S. history, celebrate the liberation of the enslaved ancestors of African Americans, and work together to advance racial healing, equity, and justice in our communities. The NAACP has hosted the North San Diego County Juneteenth for over 55 years. This year is particularly notable with it designated as a federal holiday after over 156 years of its existence. Highlights of this year's event promote the importance of education, contributions, and achievement. Each year, The House of Lebanon hosts their annual Lawn Program. The Entertainment is provided by different folk dance groups every year that will perform Folk Dances in regional native costumes. In addition to folkloric dance, local Lebanese artist will perform tradition song, music and poetry depicting the Lebanese heritage and Culture.
