ArtWalk is back at Liberty Station for its 21st year, bringing a weekend-long celebration of arts and culture to the Arts District Liberty Station, July 31 through August 2. The festival celebrates creativity from both sides of the border, with more than 175 artists coming from across several states and Mexico to show and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramics, jewelry, and sculpture. For families, there will also be a KidsWalk with a variety of hands-on art activities and experiences. In addition to exploring a variety of artists, guests can partake in the “Paint the Day at the Beach,” an interactive, artist-led activation that invites ArtWalk attendees to collaboratively bring a joyful coastal scene to life. The activation features large-scale, aerial-view coastal artworks, created by Artist Sarah Honaker, using textured and dimensional elements inspired by a day at the beach. ArtWalk Liberty Station offers a fabulous outdoor setting, with an abundance of free parking. The festival has a perimeter fence, even though admission is free; the fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (for those 21 years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a beer garden. Guests are asked to show their ID to receive a wristband to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages. This fine art show is part of the ArtWalk San Diego brand known for bringing together all facets of the arts throughout San Diego, while promoting the experience of owning original art. The San Diego City Council on Tuesday voted to declare a state of emergency in the city ahead of potentially severe weather associated with the coming El Niño season.

The concert opens with Glinka’s exuberant Overture to "Ruslan and Ludmilla." Often called the “father of Russian music,” Glinka infused his fairy tale opera with fireworks of orchestral brilliance and the spirit of adventure – capturing the joy of a wedding celebration just before the story’s drama unfolds. Ned Rorem’s Concerto for English Horn and Orchestra offers a tender, introspective contrast. Written in the 1990s while the composer was recovering from illness, the work highlights the instrument’s radiant tone through delicate orchestral textures. Its five movements unfold like a series of poetic reflections, shaped by Rorem’s lyrical gift and shimmering sensitivity to sound. Rachmaninoff’s magnificent Symphony No. 2, composed in 1906 during his years in Germany, concludes the concert. A masterpiece of Romantic passion and architectural unity, it merges sweeping melodies, heartfelt emotion, and deep nostalgia for his Russian homeland.
