An evening with Mr. Poe and Other Authors of the Macabre WRITE OUT LOUD, an organization founded in 2007 with a commitment to inspire, challenge and entertain by reading literature aloud for audiences of all ages, announces “Poe and His Progeny,” at the Villa Montezuma Museum in Sherman Heights. This historic Queen Anne Victorian was named “The Palace of the Arts," by Jessie Shepard, the musician, spiritualist and author who designed it in 1887. Necking has been a free-punk improvising collective since 2004. For this event, they’ve invited like-minded collaborators, including past members, to participate in a series of stunts that break Necking into its composite parts and themes. This five chapter essay will cite influences lofty and lowly, using the language of some of our best misfits! Known for its freely rotating lineup built around a few central members, the collective now proudly features Amy Cimini, Nick Lesley, and Nathan Berlinguette. Their signature free-punk sound is a raw, communal form of improvisation that’s fast and loud, exhausting and cathartic; it’s a celebration of friendship and creative spontaneity. From '5 works of art to see in San Diego in November': Artist and musician Francisco Eme, who is also the gallery director at The Front Arte & Cultura in San Ysidro, has a new immersive installation opening at Best Practice Gallery (in the Bread and Salt building). It's a study of family, death and birds — exploring the way cycles of grief, memory and nature fuse together in a haze.
