Love Your Heart is an annual event in which organizations join together to educate the community on heart health. Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure and don’t know it, because most of the time there are no obvious symptoms. This event helps people understand what their blood pressure is and what the blood pressure numbers mean. As a recognized Live Well partner, TrueCare is hosting this free public event for the entire community to celebrate Love Your Heart Week and American Hearth Month in February. Attendees can meet several of TrueCare’s friendly medical and dental providers and team members who are passionate about ensuring health care for all. Community partners participating with TrueCare at the event include Live Well San Diego, San Diego Blood Bank, Migrant Education, California State University-San Marcos, Mathru Krupa, and Southern Care Resource Center. For more information, call (760) 736-6777 or visit www.truecare.org/events. • The History Center has hosted the exhibition "Nathan Harrison: Born Enslaved, Died a San Diego Legend" since spring 2021. As we enter the final stretch of what has been a fascinating look at both the the story of this famed Palomar Mountain homesteader Nathan Harrison, and the process of discovery, we are proud to host one final program featuring Prof. Mallios, as well as archaeology grad student Jamie Bastide. Dr. Mallios and Jamie Bastide will discuss the recent rediscovery of Harrison’s lost shotgun and place this extraordinary find in the context of self-armament, masculinity, and identity in late 19th-century San Diego County. Drawing on recent insights from the Nathan Harrison Historical Archaeology Project, a 20-year endeavor that has uncovered nearly 60,000 artifacts and revealed numerous new insights into this legendary local pioneer, they will also detail how the weapon was relocated and its significance for the region.
