Enchantment for the family awaits you at the theatre in many sizes and shapes of marionettes—almost life-size bears—cavorting and skating. The San Diego Guild of Puppetry presents Kathy Felker in this one-woman show populated by puppet versions of favorite characters—Clara, The Nutcracker, the formidable Mouse King, and Clara's benevolent Uncle Drosselmeyer, a large hand-and-rod puppet who watches over all the dreams and drama to Tchaikovsky's renown score. Maritime Museum of San Diego, with an international reputation for excellence in restoring, maintaining, and operating historic vessels—including the world’s oldest active sailing ship, Star of India—invites Museum members, volunteers, and the public to celebrate the legendary vessel’s 162nd birthday with a complimentary visit to Star of India on Friday, November 14, 2025. The Museum last sailed Star of India on November 11 and 12, 2023 to celebrate her 160th birthday. San Diegans and visitors alike will have the chance to come aboard Star of India for free dockside entry on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This exclusive offer applies to walk-up guests only. Museum volunteers will serve complimentary birthday cake starting at 12 noon, while supplies last. Donations are encouraged, or visitors may upgrade to a general admission ticket to explore the Maritime Museum of San Diego fleet and exhibits, plus galleries nested below deck and unseen from the embarcadero. Star of India, built in 1863, is the world’s oldest active sailing ship and has circumnavigated the globe twenty-one times. Star of India first came to the City of San Diego in 1927. In 1951, the Maritime Museum of San Diego began long-awaited historical renovations to the vessel, originally named Euterpe after the Greek goddess of music and poetry. Star of India relies on Museum volunteers and a committed staff for her upkeep. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit Maritime Museum of San Diego relies on donations and the support of members, volunteers, and visitors to sustain this waterfront collection of historic vessels and maritime exhibits. The Museum is ranked among the nation’s top attractions, offering self-guided tours, docent-guided group tours, tall ship charters and historic bay cruises, public events, educational programs, and a distinctive venue for corporate and private events. You'll discover the important distinction between decluttering and organizing, learn about community resources available to help, and understand how changes in today's resale market affect the value and disposition of our belongings. Join us for an honest conversation about taking control of our possessions rather than letting them control us. E-bikes can be dangerous to ride but they’re changing the lives of young people and changing the streets of San Diego. Some people believe the right training is the key to making them a benefit to all of us.

Learn some basic sewing skills to mend your clothes. Instructors from the Visions Museum of Textile Art will teach you how to sew on a button, repair a hole or a tear in a shirt or sweater. Bring an item of clothing you would like to mend, and we will show you how fix it or patch it. You may also learn how to make and attach a creative decorative patch or embellishment to your, shirt, jacket or jeans. You may also practice sewing a button onto a heart or star shape and learn some basic sewing stitches to make a simple gift ornament. Supplies will be provided. Event is open to ages 12-18. As an unprecedented wave of book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy. "The Librarians" offers a rattling look at coordinated efforts to ban books. More importantly, it introduces viewers to the everyday and increasingly vital heroes pushing back: the librarians who sound the alarm to both legislative and grassroots attempts to pull books from school and public libraries. In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of White Christian Nationalism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
