Join ethnographer and musician Yale Strom for an online lecture exploring the deep and fascinating connections between Jewish culture and jazz. Drawing on decades of fieldwork, musicological research and artistic practice, Strom will uncover how Jewish musicians shaped one of America’s most iconic art forms. Yale Strom is one of the world's leading ethnographer-artists of klezmer and Romani music. He holds a master's degree in Yiddish Studies and has directed 10 award-winning documentary films, including The Last Klezmer (Oscar short-list). He has written 15 books, recorded 20 CDs, and served as Artist-in-Residence in Jewish Studies at San Diego State University from 2006 to 2020. "The Tiny Exhibition" is a unique, one-day public art event at Liberty Station Arts Districts' First Fridays on June 5, 2026. This event presents a powerful collaboration between contemporary artist Lisa Bryson, Tiny Home Central, Piccola Tiny Homes and the non-profit The Warrior Village Project. Featuring a collection of meticulously crafted oil paintings, many are of a jewel-like size, on display inside a Piccola Tiny Home as art gallery organized by Tiny Home Central. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Warrior Village Projects’ tiny home build program. The exhibition explores themes of scale, luxury, and sustainability, challenging the notion that size dictates value—in both art and living spaces. This event creates a poignant link between the site's legacy of military service and the project's contemporary mission, offering a compelling cultural experience while directly supporting a vital community cause. 10% of all art sales will benefit The Warrior Village Project's mission to house homeless veterans.
