  • Jed Fielding’s in-your-face street portraiture will take you right into his subjects' vivid lives. Getting in close range, his portraits allows us to feel these intimate interactions, moving beyond traditional photojournalism into personal encounters. His curious subjects reach for each other and for the photographer, too —at times it might feel like they’re reaching for us as well. In this exhibition, the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) visitors will see early works by Fielding, in addition to sections focused on his work in Naples, Italy and with blind students in Mexico City. A publication will accompany the exhibition and be available for sale through MOPA’s store. Date | Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Location | Museum of Photographic Arts The exhibit is available through September 25. Pay what you wish admission. Where we store things we do not have any use for anymore but we think we will. Like a basement. On that day in that room, Mía, an 8 year old girl, finds her old friend Sinforoso after being separated for a long-long time. But that day is a different day for Mía, because it is the day she has decided to leave home. To leave the house with her mother because in that house there are sad things that Mía does not like. There are difficult things, scary things, nerve-wracking things, but at the end, guess what? She is brave enough to say what she feels, she is brave enough to say: no, and she is brave enough to defend herself. [Don’t be afraid moms, dads. Sit down with your children and see Mía.]" Directed by Daniel Jáquez the cast includes Vanessa Flores as Mía and Lester Isariuz as Sinforoso. “MÍA is a beautiful story. It's sad, but very powerful while also hopeful. It's about the power of childhood and its imagination and the greatness that our hearts are capable of.” “MÍA es una historia muy bonita. • “Hollywoodland” pays homage to the undeniable influence of Hollywood on culture and music. This program traces the influence of the “Hollywood” sound on Rachmaninoff’s iconic Symphonic Dances, the jazz obsession of Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin, the romantic minimalism of Polina Nazaykinskaya’s cinematic “Nostalgia,” and the Oscar-nominated score by Hans Zimmer, The Interstellar. These diverse composers have in common the influence of the uniquely American art forms of jazz and minimalism, while their musical narratives are guided by principles of motion picture storytelling. The show will be narrated by Jacopo and Konstantin with a moderated Q&A at the end. Date | Friday, October 14 at 8 p.m. Location | The Baker-Baum Concert Hall at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center Get tickets here! Ticket prices ranging from $25.50 to $58.
