  • The North City district in San Marcos is celebrating Earth Day with an evening of sustainable style, community, and conversation at Union Cowork on April 21 from 5–9 p.m. The event kicks off at 5 p.m. with a denim shop, swap, and thrift experience featuring live styling featuring Swap & Shop SD, Positive Phee, and a collective of local makers including Sew Loka, eM Pulse, and Avartan Avenue, all reimagining denim through reuse, repair, and reinvention. At 6 p.m., guests can settle in for a screening of the acclaimed documentary "RiverBlue," which explores the environmental impact of the fashion industry from river to runway to landfill. The film is followed by a post-screening conversation at 7:45 p.m. with experts leading the sustainability movement in San Diego, including Marissa Acosta, Zero Waste and Sustainability Specialist at CSUSM, and Liz of Sustainability is Sexy, a nonprofit founder and community advocate. • Funk isn’t merely a genre. It’s a state of mind. Such is the opinion of GRiZ, the North Detroit-raised musician who spends sunny days and neon-tinted nights in pursuit of good vibrations. The multi-talented GRiZ has cultivated a party-poppin’ corner of bass music all his own defined by sax-blastin’ productions and soulful live shows. His reflective nature and fun-loving attitude are mirrored in his unmistakable electronic creations, each their own serotonin-fueled gateway to a bona fide good time. Now building beats in the heart of Denver, GRiZ has proven that his eclectic style is boundless. A musical chameleon, GRiZ is never afraid to flip the switch from upbeat future funk to low-tempo glitch-hop, dive into the heavier leaning side of bass music, and even from time to time quench his thirst with a taste of four-on-the-floor or disco. This shape-shifting maestro can do it all, painting each cut with his vibey hallmark sound print and leaving no question of their genesis. • This one has a setting that does a lot of the work for it. With Belmont Park, the beach, and the boardwalk all wrapped into the backdrop, the event feels less like a standalone lot show and more like a car gathering folded into a bigger day around Mission Beach. Attendees can expect a broad mix of cars, trucks, and motorcycles, along with live music, food, trophies, and enough nearby activity to keep the whole thing feeling active without needing to overcomplicate the format. Organized by Car Show California, the event keeps things open to a wide range of vehicles and classes, which should help give the lineup some variety. Registration is available for participants, and early signups come with an event shirt, while the rest of the appeal seems to come from the location and the easy Father’s Day weekend timing. It reads like the kind of show where people can take in the cars, catch some music, and let the setting fill in the rest.
