Join us for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. Inspired by world renowned artists, you will explore different media, techniques and subjects found in an artist’s studio. After a brief slide presentation for inspiration and context the session will continue with demonstrations. The Colors of Venice Monet was inspired to paint the reflective light off the water canals and architecture of Venice, Italy. Drawing inspiration from Monet's limited, vibrant color palette and thick brushstrokes, you will create energetic and fluid paintings that evoke visual poetry in this very special art workshop. This full day workshop held from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. is meant to get you in the art making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artworks. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. Learn to Carve a Scandinavian Eater or Serving Spoon! Sunday, June 28, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. In this intermediate spoon carving workshop, Woodworker Paul Maschka guides students as they grow their carving skills. This class is for students who have taken Beginner Spoon Carving with Paul or have done some prior intricate wood carving with carving knives. Students will learn and use specific Scandinavian style tools to create beautiful yet functional spoons for eating or serving food. Students will learn to carve from a green log of wood to a finished, elegant spoon, while also learning safe tool practices, proper body mechanics, and how to sharpen your carving tools. All tools and supplies will be provided for this course. Prerequisite: This class is designed for the intermediate carver. Students should have either taken Beginner Spoon Carving with Paul, or have previous experience with intricate wood carving, before enrolling in this workshop. All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. Tools and chopping blocks will be available for purchase after the class. No experience necessary. The program will begin with an educator-led tour of the exhibition, offering close-looking opportunities and conversation to deepen engagement with Iturbide’s work. During this workshop, participants will create one-of-a-kind handmade books using natural materials such as dried leaves, shells, and wood. Guided by museum educators, you will explore simple bookmaking techniques while considering how organic forms, textures, and found elements can hold memory and meaning. The weeklong celebration features daily games, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, and live entertainment leading up to a lively Easter weekend filled with egg hunts, movie night under the stars, and photos with the Easter Bunny. With thousands of colorful eggs hidden across the park and activities designed for all ages, Easter at Campland offers a fun-filled spring getaway for families visiting San Diego. One of the most anticipated traditions is the Golden Egg Hunt, which takes place daily throughout the week. Guests search the park’s public areas for hidden golden eggs that can be redeemed at the recreation office for special prizes. The Golden Egg Hunt begins daily at 10:30 a.m., with a total of 21 opportunities to find a golden egg throughout the week. Search groups may include up to four people and each group may win a maximum of two times. Golden eggs will be placed only in public areas throughout the resort. Winners should bring their egg to the Recreation Office to redeem their prize. Easter Weekend festivities peak on Saturday, April 4, with Campland’s annual Egg Rush, where thousands of colorful eggs are scattered across Huff ‘n Puff Park and Central Park for children in different age groups. Families can also enjoy music, bingo, dodgeball tournaments and a family movie night.
