Get ready to witness transcenDANCE's annual CREATE production "Harvesting Hope" on July 24 - 25, 2026. How is hope a tool for resilience, transformation, and collective care? How do small ideas and persistent action lead to positive change in our communities? What does it look like to cultivate hope in our own lives? Our 2026 CREATE production asks these questions through original contemporary and hip-hop dance pieces, interwoven with performance poetry and visual art. When transcenDANCE students spoke with local San Diego changemakers early this year, they learned about creative resistance, the many ways they as individuals can engage in changemaking, and what it takes to start and sustain change. Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Fan Experience in Petco Park: From Thursday through Sunday, Wizards of the Coast will host the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Fan Experience in Petco Park. Open to all (no badge required), fans can dive into this new collection with learn-to-play sessions, ticketed play, and exclusive giveaways. Around Downtown: All weekend long, Marvel fans can cool off with a Madripoor Sunrise Slushie inspired by Marvel’s Wolverine at the Omni Hotel Lawn and take a photo alongside a looming Proto-Sentinel Head before grabbing Marvel’s Wolverine claws. MARVEL Future Fight fans are invited to challenge World Boss Thanos using Spider-Man in a special on-site gameplay event, with participants receiving an exclusive redeem code containing 550 crystals, along with a commemorative postcard. Fighting game fans can test their skills by playing a demo of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and take photos with Doctor Doom and Storm statues. Encinitas Preservation Association Presents the Historical Bus Tour - Featuring the historic 1886 Bumann Ranch and 60+ Historical Points The Encinitas Preservation Association (EPA) will once again be hosting the historical bus tour on Saturday, August 8 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The tour includes over 50 historical points of interest and scheduled stops at OIivenhain Town Hall, San Dieguito Heritage Museum and a drive through the old Ecke Poinsettia Farm. The highlight of the tour will be a rare opportunity to tour the historic Bumann Ranch which was homesteaded in 1886. This ranch has been carefully preserved and represents rural life in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. This is an extraordinary opportunity to see a working ranch with many historic buildings. Three generations of the Bumann family have called this home for the past 125 years. The buildings and contents are totally original and unchanged. Of the many Encinitas homestead ranches that once dotted the back country, this is the only one to survive into the twenty first century. Each ticket supports the preservation of two of Encinitas’ most iconic historical buildings, the Boathouses. The EPA acquired the SS Moonlight and SS Encinitas in 2008 in order to maintain them and make sure they remain in place for future generations. Tickets are $60 at the iconic 1883 one room schoolhouse. They may be purchased through the Eventbrite page. The tour will depart from the Pacific View Arts Center parking lot at 10 a.m. and return at 1 p.m. The 1883 School House will be open for viewing following the tour. By end of the semester, you will have learned to design beautiful and professional looking arrangements for both every day and special occasions.   This class is free and open to the public. After just one week in the studio, experience the early stages of her ballet in creation and gain insight into the choreographic process. Step into the studio for this is a rare opportunity to witness the early stages of a ballet in development—where ideas are still evolving, movement is being shaped, and the creative process is fully visible. As a choreographer, Jinakunwiphat’s work centers on community, connection, and identity, drawing from her experience as a Thai-American artist navigating multiple cultural perspectives. Her process emphasizes collaboration and exploration, asking how we relate to one another through movement.
