  • Pastaria Vivi was founded by chefs Brandon Jennings and William Treff, whose combined decades of experience span Michelin-recognized dining rooms, award-winning seafood spots, and some of San Diego’s most respected restaurants. Jennings and Treff, alongside Chef Harrison Axelrod who most recently served as Executive Chef of Rancho Santa Fe institution Mille Fleurs, bring complementary perspectives shaped by fine-dining kitchens and hands-on pasta experience, blending Northern Italian tradition with California’s wealth of seasonal ingredients. Hours: Monday - Friday: 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday & Sunday: Noon - 5 p.m. Pastaria Vivi will be open daily with a flexible retail format that allows guests to pick up ready-to-cook meals, shop a curated selection of quality antipasti and pantry staples, and “try-before-you-buy” taste from a select à la carte menu, ensuring fresh pasta can be an everyday staple for the North County community. At the core of the concept is the fresh pasta and sauce counter, offering mix-and-match pasta and sauce combinations designed to bridge the gap between a quick meal and elevated home cooking. A rotating lineup of handmade shapes are crafted each morning—including tagliatelle, pappardelle, ravioli, and tortellini—paired with slow-simmered sauces like Bolognese, pomodoro, roasted garlic Alfredo, and seasonally-inspired specials. An abbreviated selection of pastas will be available for dine-in, including pappardelle Bolognese, heirloom tomato bucatini, and Pastaria Vivi’s signature green striped farfalle served with basil pesto.Handmade focaccia, seasonal antipasti, and classic desserts like fresh cannoli will also be available for purchase at the pasta counter. Guests can expect to see the following pasta and sauce combinations on the menu board, which was designed by local artist Katie Bush, available upon opening: ● Farfalle - basil pesto, pine nut, parmigiano ● Pappardelle - beef + pork Bolognese, pecorino ● Ravioli - spinach + ricotta, garlic, oregano ● Tortellini - mortadella + prosciutto, brodo ● Bucatini - heirloom marinara, basil, olive oil Additionally, guests can expect the following antipasti selections: ● Fresh baked focaccia - rosemary, maldon salt ● Handmade burrata - stracciatella, Galantino olive oil ● Prosciutto di Parma - aged 24 months ● Nonna’s Meatball - pomodoro, parmigiano To round out their counter experience, dessert options include: ● Ricotta cannoli - pistachio or chocolate ● Tiramisu

  • Curated by Dinah Poellnitz Space 4 Art is pleased to present "PHOSPHENE," a group exhibition curated by Dinah Poellnitz and featuring the work of Bryttney-Mischele Salvant, Mark Chamness, Pastelle, and Akiko Surai. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. and remains on view through August 15, 2026, at Art Produce Gallery. Named for the phenomenon of seeing light without an external source, "PHOSPHENE" (phos·phene (noun)/ˈfäsˌfēn/) refers to the colors, patterns, and luminous sensations perceived behind closed eyes. The exhibition uses this phenomenon as a metaphor for artistic intuition, exploring the inner vision that emerges before conscious thought and the creative instincts that guide artistic practice. Developed through Poellnitz's curatorial residency with Space 4 Art, the exhibition began with a studio visit to S4A resident artist Bryttney-Mischele Salvant and expanded into a conversation among four artists whose practices embrace intuition, material exploration, and personal transformation. Though their approaches differ— from painting and fiber to illustration, embroidery, and found materials —they share a commitment to trusting the creative process before certainty. “There is a moment every artist knows and rarely names. It arrives somewhere between the first mark and the last, when the mind finally stops negotiating with the hand,” Poellnitz commented. “These artists did not plan their way to that moment. They surrendered to it. And in that surrender, something was made that could not have been made any other way.” Salvant's expressive paintings privilege emotional truth over technical perfection, while Mark Chamness transforms discarded plastic bags into richly textured fiber works that investigate color, place, and environmental memory. Pastelle's vibrant illustrations celebrate confidence, identity, and unapologetic self-expression through radiant color and fantastical imagery. Akiko Surai's embroidered and beaded sculptures draw from Black revolutionary thought and craft traditions across the African diaspora, creating works that speak to resilience, inheritance, and collective imagination. Together, these artists invite viewers to consider the moment when instinct overtakes intention—when making becomes less about knowing and more about trusting. "PHOSPHENE" celebrates the quiet inner light that artists follow and asks audiences to reflect on the creative spark that exists within us all. • "MADDIE’S SECRET" is comedian, writer, and actor John Early’s critically acclaimed directorial debut starring himself as Maddie, a plucky dishwasher who leaps to viral superstardom at a trendy food content creation company. While her life seems picturesque — complete with an adoring husband (Eric Rahill), ride-or-die best friend (Kate Berlant) and a cupboard full of woman-owned ethically-sourced chili crisp to boot — mounting professional pressures threaten to reawaken a hidden secret from her troubled past. A pitch-perfect blend of satire, melodrama, daring tonal shifts and intimate performances, the film marks a bold new voice in contemporary cinema. Digital Gym Cinema on Facebook / Instagram
