  • The Danny Green Trio, featuring pianist/composer Danny Green, bassist Justin Grinnell, and drummer Julien Cantelm, join Seattle based group Meridian Odyssey for a double bill jazz performance at Dizzy’s on Sunday, October 9 at 7 p.m. Dizzy’s is located at 1717 Morena Blvd. San Diego, CA 92122, and tickets are $20 cash at the door.
Over the past decade, jazz pianist and Origin Records recording artist Danny Green has earned recognition as a bandleader and as a composer with a gift for spinning lyrical, absorbing narratives. Green’s growing portfolio of vibrant sounds – an enchanting mix of jazz, classical, and Brazilian rhythms – has captured the attention of critics around the world, including DownBeat Magazine, Jazziz, the San Diego Union Tribune, the Boston Globe, and Public Radio International. It’s no small wonder that Green has earned two San Diego Music awards for Best Jazz Album and an additional award for Best Jazz Artist. His long-time trio includes bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm, noteworthy musicians in their own right, and together they have developed a nearly psychic connection as they perform Green’s original compositions and jazz standards. Green takes listeners on a journey that is equal parts introspective and exuberant, and always compelling.
Meridian Odyssey features saxophonist Santosh Sharma, pianist Dylan Haye, guitarist Martin Budde, bassist Ben Feldman, and drummer Xavier Lecouturier. This concert is part of their thirteen-stop "West Coast" Tour. Their recent Origin Records release, Second Wave, contains mostly original songs by the band members and sounds like 21st-century hard bop, influenced by modern pop and classic jazz fusion. KNKX radio host and jazz critic said of the group, “Each of these players is incredibly talented; their youthful exhuberance shines through on urgent and passionate uptempo flights and intense, moody ballads alike. There are hooks to be found throughout Second Wave, but the band's interplay - the musical conversation in each performance - is most striking to my ear.” Concert goers can expect two sets packed with top-notch musicianship, beautiful song-writing, high energy and all around fun!
