From the museum: Celebrate Dia de Muertos with the Women’s Museum of California. Stop by the WMC Education Center anytime between 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM on November 1st to join WMC Artistic Director Katie Ruiz in decorating our feminist altar honoring Yolanda Lopez and other trailblazing women. Yolanda López, an artist and activist who created one of the most famous artworks in Chicano history by boldly recasting the Virgin of Guadalupe in her own image — as a young, strong, brown woman wearing running shoes and a wide grin. Members of the public are encouraged to bring a photo of a feminist who has passed away (ie: RBG, Artemisia Gentileschi, Miriam Shapiro, Ida B. Wells) and come decorate a frame for the photo. Enjoy an evening of crafts and community for all ages. Typically, Dia de Muertos is a Mexican holiday that honors those who have passed. Creating an altar (ofrenda) is believed to help the souls come through to visit us for one night. Using their own curated selection of glittering gems, swirls of color, and elaborate filigree, you will be guided by Timken teaching artist, Elizabeth Washburn. The third Guardians film assumes a strangely somber tone and a plot that features more cruelty to animals and children than audiences have any reason to expect from a wacky space yarn.

The San Dieguito Heritage Museum and the Ovation Theatre are excited to announce the production of the first-ever "Haunted Ghost Town Spooktacular" at Heritage Ranch, 450 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas. The weekends of October 21-23 and October 28-30, the brand new otherworldly theatrical production will turn, what during the day, is an innocent stroll through the artifacts and exhibits of the ancestors, into a 25-minute spine-chilling tour of the pranks and secrets of the departed at night. Student actors of Ovation Theatre will guide those brave enough through the Heritage Ranch property with tours every thirty minutes: Family-friendly less spine-tingling tours from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and horrifyingly frightening tours for all from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Visit SDHeritage.org to buy tickets and for more information. The San Diego Latino Film Festival is at a new location with an expanded focus. The two-week event now goes beyond film and celebrates Latino culture in other visual arts.

The overture was commissioned as a celebration of Russian victory and imperialism. The August concert will still feature other works by Tchaikovsky, including "The Tempest."
