Megan Giddings is coming to SD as the featured program of San Diego Public Library and USD Copley Library's annual Black History Month Author Talk. Giddings will discuss "Lakewood," her acclaimed debut novel, with a Q&A and book signing to follow. Her second novel, "The Women Could Fly" (2022), was named one of The Washington Post’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy novels of 2022 and was a New York Times Editors’ Choice. Mondays, November 18, 25, December 2 & 16 From 6-8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6-9 p.m. In this 5-week series, students will learn the basics of handbuilding to create functional pieces for their pet friends. Working with mid fire clay, students will complete multiple projects including pet bowls- water dish, food dish or slow feeders, treat jar, and name tag medallions. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors throughout the course to decorate and customize their pieces. All materials provided. Shelter to Soldier, in proud partnership with Foundation for Women Warriors, is excited to announce its third annual Sisterhood of Service event, presented by L’Auberge Del Mar. Taking place on Thursday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the beautiful L’Auberge Del Mar (1540 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar, CA 92014), this event is a heartfelt celebration recognizing the strength, resilience, and service of women veterans and active-duty military women. Created to foster connection, empowerment, and community, Sisterhood of Service provides a welcoming space for women who have served, and continue to serve, our country. The day will begin with an all-levels yoga session, followed by refreshments, networking opportunities, and access to resources tailored to the needs of women veterans. Attendees will also enjoy a catered lunch, hear from an inspirational guest speaker, and participate in an interactive goal-setting workshop. Admission is free for women veterans and active-duty military members, but an RSVP is required.
