The biennial visual and performing arts festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024 from 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. ENVZN24 Urban Art Takeover is a one-of-a-kind visual and performing arts festival that will transform urban areas of the Commercial Street corridor in Logan Heights with multi-sensory art interventions by creatives from both sides of the U.S./Mexico border. A food truck court has been added for festival goers to enjoy while experiencing the wide variety of bi-national presentations. Nearly 20 arts organizations and 100 artists will be participating. PEEC is a free program for teens, who are interested in art-making as an enrichment activity that goes beyond making crafts. The aim of the program is to provide a space for youth to create art, share stories, collaborate, explore, and identify new ways to use art in their lives. The Athenaeum offers facilities, resources, guidance, instruction, and support. The open studio program includes a rotation of multidisciplinary art instructors offering workshops in their respective fields, as well as curricular activities that involve the use of the Athenaeum library resources as a starting point for projects. Activities include drawing, painting, research, and introduction to various media. The program is free and teens can register. This year's Trolley Dances™ will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28th & 29th on the Green Line trolley.
