Zucchero returns to the Balboa Theatre! November 2021 saw the release of “DISCOVER”, the very first cover album project in Zucchero’s career, preceded by the radio single of the Genesis song “Follow you follow me”. In “Discover” Zucchero dismantled iconic songs from the Italian and International music scene and reassembled them in his own signature style. The album features collaborations with major artists such as BONO in “Canta la Vita” (the Italian version of Bono’s song “Let your love be known” with lyrics by Zucchero), ELISA in “Luce (Tramonti a Nord Est)” and MAHMOOD in“Natural Blues”, Moby’s version of the Vera Hall track “Trouble So Hard”. There is also an intense, emotional rendition of the track “Ho visto Nina volare”, a virtual duet between Zucchero and FABRIZIO DE ANDRÉ. The transition of beauty from day to night is a wondrous adventure in many ways. For me, the beauty is bright lights that glow in the backdrop of the evening sky; particularly neon. With its robust colors and signage shapes it conveys a message and style for all to enjoy. The visual message may be a unique type style, shape or perhaps even a characterization. Either way, some talented artist/designer created the signage masterpiece that glows with brilliance. Utilizing their skills and talents in creativity and concept, the artist creates a design while mastering the technologies of gas and glass. The creation is bended and shaped into an image that, when electrified, glows in radiant colors. Neon sign styles have influenced sign makers who take pride in their ability to design and style a visual beauty in glowing glass tubes. Neon style signs work hand and hand. Vintage neon tubes filled with gas vs the modern day fluorescent tubes that glow bright light in the evening sky. I have been photographing neon signs and scenic night environments for the past 40 years. Some of my photos are historical vintage images as well as modern day/night beauties. My images are created smoothly and easily for the viewers eye and mind. Santa and his many elves at the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association are at it again. They're getting ready for their “Annual Holiday Gift Sale”. The sale features many hand-crafted items that range from holiday decorations to pens to laser arts to carvings to keepsake boxes and heirloom wood toys made in the local workshop. The San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association association is the largest woodworking guild in the country, and 40% of our new members are women who want to pursue the craft of woodworking. Our aim is to introduce the greater San Diego community to the joys of woodworking! The San Diego-based chamber choir SACRA/PROFANA has accomplished remarkable things in just ten years, including numerous world and U.S. premieres and collaborations with leading regional arts organizations. This year marks their debut on the St. James Music Series. The night skies have fascinated poets, thinkers, painters, and musicians since the dawn of time. In this program SACRA/PROFANA will present some of the finest choral music with the theme of stars, nighttime, and celestial bodies, with an emphasis on recently composed music. The group will put their stamp on modern masters such as Morten Lauridsen, René Clausen, and Frank Ticheli, as well as rising stars of choral music such as Eriks Esenvalds and Sarah Rimkus. Conductor Juan Carlos Acosta says “We are absolutely thrilled to be making our debut on the St. James Music Series. The setting is ideal, and we think that the audiences will appreciate our approach to this stunning music.”
