  • From the organizers: We are bringing back our first-ever DISCO RIOT work and revamping it for a performance at ODC Theater! Before we head north, we will share the work for one show only on July 30th at the City Heights Performance Annex. DISCO RIOT’s Ex Nihilo, choreographed by Zaquia Mahler Salinas, features an original sound score by Jonny Tarr, is informed by excerpts of lectures from Alan Watts, and draws from channeling creative source. Latin for “out of nothing,” Ex Nihilo is a meditative quintet about what it takes to make something-from-nothing-ness. PORT: SF/SD is a shared evening of premieres by contemporary dance companies FACT/SF (San Francisco) and DISCO RIOT (San Diego). These performances mark DISCO RIOT’s San Francisco debut and will be followed by another shared evening of both groups in San Diego in early 2023. DISCO RIOT and FACT/SF are working together as part of PORT, a reciprocal touring model that supports artistic exchange and creates opportunities to present visiting artists to local audiences.
