From the suffrage sashes and banners of the early 1900s to the pink knitted pussy hats of the modern Women’s March movement, textiles have played an important role as a messenger for women’s activism. "Textiles" connect women throughout time. They are skills passed down from generation to generation, from mother to daughter, within the privacy of the home. The items displayed in this exhibit are evidence of women’s historical impact on our society. By celebrating craftwork as a tool of artistic and political expression, and not only as private acts of women’s labor, we see how impactful women have been in our society.
