  • Members of the San Diego Symphony and FF Collective are partnering with a Ukrainian refugee flutist to perform a benefit concert to fund relief efforts for 60 members of Ukraine’s premier youth orchestra who are displaced in Poland because of the war in their home region. Admission is free, with all donations going to the Youth Academic Symphony Orchestra of Kharkiv and Doctors Without Borders work in Ukraine. The family-friendly concert features Ukrainian music, and will be an hour long. Participants include the San Diego Symphony, FF Collective, Artonic Quartet, the San Diego Cello Foundation and Uktranian flutist Daria Hudymemko, of the the Lviv National Philharmonic. Hudymemko was an exchange scholar at a university in the U.S. when Russia invaded Ukraine, and has been unable to return to her home and orchestra.   • Escondido Arts Partnership Escondido Municipal Gallery has the honor of exhibiting works by internationally acclaimed artist Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) The May 15, 2021 through April 2022 exhibition "Colorations" features a kaleidoscope of colorful works with a large-scale steel and glass mosaic “skinny” sculpture of a rhinoceros and gouache paintings and drawings. A rhino, frog, and monkey are depicted in bright, wondrous color, characteristic of this celebrated late French-American artist (circa 1995 – 1997). The artworks are on loan from the Niki Charitable Arts Foundation.

  • Music educator, composer, arranger, and jazz saxophonist Chaz Cabrera prepares a special evening of music featuring selected jazz repertoire and original compositions. The original compositions include “Nova,” a contemporary jazz piece that explores lush chords and a simple melody; “A Touch of Silver,” an homage to Cabrera’s favorite composer Horace Silver; and “On Dusk Drive,” a tune that takes listeners back to the street where Cabrera’s musical career began.
