John Eddie is a skilled vocalist, composer, and energetic live act, who has also ventured into writing and producing for movies and television (Agent Elvis, Netflix). Eddie has gained a loyal audience with his captivating live shows and sincere lyrics that are filled with honest, real-life experiences, clever humor, and reflections on life, love, and everything in between. After his debut album on Lost Highway, Who the Hell is John Eddie?, Eddie relocated to Nashville, where his music was recognized and recorded by notable artists such as Brantley Gilbert, Keith Urban, Kid Rock, and Sammy Hagar. As a traveling musician, Eddie has shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen, Miranda Lambert, Bob Seger, John Mayer, and many more. Sundays, 1 p.m.– 4 p.m. January 12–March 2 (8 weeks, 24 total hours of instruction) La Jolla Studio “Fauvism is not everything, but it is the foundation of everything.”—Henri Matisse Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, and Maurice Vlaminck were the creators of this powerful era in art of the early 1900s. The act of painting itself was at the heart of Fauvism. It was the first movement to insist in explicit terms that a painting is the canvas and the pigments—not the subject. This class will explore the Postimpressionist movement that led to the Fauve movement strongly influencing the art of the 20th century. Leaving behind classic color, perspective, and subject matter, moving into exciting, bold, vibrant colors, spontaneous compositions, and highly gestural application of paint techniques is what we will explore painting in session. A pink sky? Why not! Come join the fun, freedom, and excitement of expressive Fauve painting. This class is for all levels of painters, both beginning and experienced artists. You are also welcome to do your own work. This is a good place to be with other talented painters and enjoy the creative atmosphere here at the Athenaeum. Local artists will provide step-by-step guidance to help you create your own version of “Blooming Cactuses.” This venue is dog-friendly and wheel wheelchair accessible. This venue does not offer food but has visiting food vendors (make sure to contact the venue to see if there is a food truck visiting on the day of the event). Feel free to bring snacks, or make sure that you can get a bite to eat before our paint-and-sip event. Plenty of parking is available. This is a 21+ venue.
