The Commission on the Status of Women and Girls is proud to host the "Know Your Rights Symposium", aimed at educating women about their legal rights. This event will feature expert speakers from legal service providers who will delve into the critical topics of employment, housing, healthcare and immigration. The no-cost symposium is open to women and girls throughout San Diego County. It will take place on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Southeastern Live Well Center – Tubman Chavez Center. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Parking is available at no cost in the adjacent garage on Market Street. Anyone interested in attending the Know "Your Rights Symposium" is invited to register to secure a seat and request space-limited child care or translation/interpretation services. Walk-ins will be welcomed on a space-available basis. This event is made possible by a Women’s Recovery Response Grant from the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls. From the supernatural to the slightly-too-realistic, it's been a banner year for scary movies, many of which are available to stream from home this Halloween.

Tour the newly restored San Diego landmark. This unique wood lath greenhouse harbors over 2,000 subtropical plants from around the world—a concentration of botanical exotica in a one-of-a-kind structure that “leaves” photographers at a loss for words. This tour’s scheduling assumes the Botanical Building will have reopened following a two-year complete restoration project. If the building is still closed to the public, another topic will be presented. Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the second Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. Walks last 1.5 to 2 hours and are typically less than 1 mile on level terrain. It is advised that potential attendees contact the Balboa Park Visitors Center prior to the scheduled walk to determine if there are any last-minute changes or cancellations to the tours. The Hallo-Wine Fall Festival returns for its 17th year. Hosted by local nonprofit Home Start, this food and wine festival is the ultimate season event. This year’s event returns to an incredible outdoor venue in Point Loma, on the lawn of a private estate with picturesque ocean views. The Hallo-Wine Fall Festival is held every October in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event raises funds for Home Start's core programs that provide critical assistance to children, families, and individuals in need.
