"Convergence" by Duke Windsor brings together two distinct artistic styles—textured urban abstracts and realistic alleyway scenes—to explore the raw beauty and hidden stories of city life. Through layers of paint, rich textures, and touches of gold leaf, Windsor captures the interplay between gritty urban surfaces and the vibrant experiences they reflect. His detailed alleyway paintings, inspired by thousands of photographs, contrast with expressive abstract works, revealing the unseen narratives within our built environment. Convergence invites viewers to consider the ways our cities shape us, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the ever-evolving landscapes we call home. Ride the hidden, unridden, and forbidden Point Loma to support pancreatic cancer research! The Point Loma Rotary Club is hosting the 11th Annual Jim Krause Memorial Charity Cycling Ride the Point for pancreatic cancer research on November 9, 2024. The ride starts and ends at Liberty Station and includes exclusive scenic routes throughout beautiful San Diego. This local all-volunteer ride has raised over $300,000 for pancreatic cancer research at UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Ride the Point has three distances to accommodate diverse levels of cycling experience. The 5-mile Family Fun Ride is a relatively flat course on bike paths along beautiful San Diego Bay and is perfect for cruisers, beginning riders, challenged athletes, and families. The 25 and Metric Century are street rides with exclusive routes and challenging climbs around scenic San Diego. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with glazes. Students will complete various projects throughout the course, learning the basics of clay materials and handbuilding — skills necessary to work independently in open studio. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors. All materials provided. Make Tiny Ceramics! Join me in the land of miniatures. You will learn how and get to create tiny pottery on a mini pottery wheel. No previous pottery experience necessary! In this 2-hour class, you will learn to create 1-3 tiny pots and can add some color if you would like to. You will learn how to center the clay and open it up to form tiny pots, bowls, or plates. This class is a great way to learn the basics of a wheel on a small scale. It is less intimidating and is an accessible way to throw and center clay. Grab a friend or family member who’s been curious about ceramics and come join me in creating tiny pottery! This class includes clay, under glazing and firing of the clay. The clay cannot be taken home at the time of the class because it must be kiln fired. The turn around is 1-2 weeks for drying, glazing, and firing before you pick up your miniature creations. No experience necessary.
