  • Casa Familiar is proud to announce the 19th annual Dia de la Mujer Exhibition, titled “Exquisite Potential: Surviving the 21st Century through Surreal Metamorphosis." The opening reception will take place on March 7, 5-7 p.m., at The FRONT Gallery in San Ysidro, California. Exquisite Potential, draws inspiration from the Surrealist movement of the 1920s-30s, where artists and writers explored metamorphosis as a process of collective mythmaking in order to push back against oppression, which included the rise of European fascism and the effects of Western imperialism. This exhibition brings together a wide array of international and local artists over several events to elevate the works of BIPOC women and non-binary artists from both sides of the border. More than a century later, anti-fascist and anti-imperialist methods rooted in a surreal metamorphosis must be re-examined and re-employed as strategies to confront present-day national/global authoritarianism and the complete disregard of human rights. By turning the familiar into the strange or the grotesque into the beautiful we are empowered by the ability to forge our own existence in whatever shape it takes. • QUIET INTERRUPTION Opening Reception Saturday, September 26, 2026 · 4-7 p.m. Exhibition Dates September 23 - October 10, 2026 Admission Free and open to the public What happens when something quiet changes the way you see a place? "Quiet Interruption" brings together artwork that invites you to slow down and notice what might otherwise be missed. A shift of light. A familiar object seen differently. A moment of stillness. A subtle tension. Something unexpected that quietly captures your attention. The works in this exhibition do not demand to be noticed. Instead, they create space for looking, lingering, and discovering something new. Across painting, sculpture, mixed media, and other forms, "Quiet Interruption" explores the beauty and complexity of those small moments that alter our experience of the everyday. Some works may feel intimate and contemplative. Others may interrupt a space with unexpected scale, material, movement, or presence. For collectors and art lovers, this is an invitation to look a little longer, to notice what catches you off guard, to discover the work that stays with you long after you've walked away.
