From June 3-7, 2026 DISCO RIOT will present San Diego’s signature queer-focused movement-arts festival, Queer Mvmnt Fest. The festival presents artists who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ dance community from San Diego and beyond. Queer Mvmnt Fest features queer-focused spaces as well as events open to the general public, including performances, workshops, artist Q&A’s, and movement-based short films. This program addresses inequity through an intersectional lens by centering the work of queer artists who additionally identify as BIPOC/Global Majority and Disabled. This year, we will be featuring four artists with one being an international artist. We are also featuring a Variety Showcase with 10 unique artists, highlighting many eclectic performance forms such as drag, burlesque, and circus acts. The festival also features an International Film Screening, and 6 dance classes and workshops offered by the Performing Artists throughout the weekend. Artists will be coming to San Diego from Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Raleigh, and Montreal, Quebec along with an array of local San Diego artists. The San Diego Potters' Guild is a juried membership of forty skilled potters. Located in Balboa Park's historic Spanish Village at Studio 29, members make and sell their work directly to the public. Themed shows rotate throughout the year in the central gallery while other areas display member work often refreshed. This exciting score, taken from the Tolkien films, includes 85 instrumentalists, 100 singers, soloists and children’s chorus. The music of "The Lord of the Rings" creates a new and dramatic live concert experience, led by Guest Conductor James Beauton of San Francisco. "The Fellowship of the Ring," composed by Howard Shore, won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2001. The score incorporates unusual percussion instruments, including Japanese taiko drums, metal bell plates and chains beaten upon piano wires to depict the mythical creatures called Orcs. Thursday, August 20: Book signing and talk with Amy Forsythe at 5 p.m. Forsythe is an award-winning military photojournalist who served as a U.S. Marine and recently retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Public Affairs Officer. She’s the author of “Heroes Live Here: A Tribute to Camp Pendleton Marines” which started as a passion project to showcase the memorials and markers on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton which turned into a collaborative work of art that honors our fallen Marines of the post-9/11 generation. Amy Forsythe began her career as an enlisted military journalist in the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently serves as a Public Affairs Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Her career has included five combat deployments and several other overseas assignments.
