Join us for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. Inspired by world renowned artists, you will explore different media, techniques and subjects found in an artist’s studio. After a brief slide presentation for inspiration and context the session will continue with demonstrations. The Colors of Venice Monet was inspired to paint the reflective light off the water canals and architecture of Venice, Italy. Drawing inspiration from Monet's limited, vibrant color palette and thick brushstrokes, you will create energetic and fluid paintings that evoke visual poetry in this very special art workshop. This full day workshop held from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. is meant to get you in the art making groove and develop new approaches to seeing and creating artworks. Whether you have a lifetime practice or are new to expressing yourself, we exchange ideas and techniques in a supportive and challenging environment. Students of all levels are welcome to stretch their creative muscles and build community with us. All supplies and light refreshments for each workshop are included in the cost. All are welcome to the opening reception of "Connecting Currents" art exhibition. Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. Curated by the San Diego River Artists' Alliance, the exhibition runs February 3 through May 1. The San Diego River Artists' Alliance (SDRAA) is a collective of visual and 3D artists dedicated to creating artwork inspired by the San Diego River and its ecosystem. The alliance collaborates with the San Diego River Park Foundation (SDRPF) to support the foundation's work and long-term vision for the river. Since its founding in 2021, SDRAA has participated in numerous SDRPF events, including RiverFest, annual anniversary celebrations at the Discovery Center, and sponsored hikes. In 2023, the collective hosted an exhibition at Gallery 21 in Balboa Park, featuring work from 14 SDRAA artists. The alliance continues to actively pursue new group exhibitions that celebrate the river and raise awareness of its ecological significance. As part of national cancer survivorship celebrations in June, Scripps Cancer Center will host a free, virtual cancer survivors support group on June 9 for anyone adjusting to life after cancer treatment. It is intended for people who have completed cancer treatments for stage 0 to stage 3 diagnoses. Whether you're feeling strong, uncertain, hopeful, anxious, or all of the above, this group is focused on helping cancer survivors move forward by building new routines, finding purpose and connecting with others who truly understand.
