The San Diego Automotive Museum and the San Diego Blood Bank are teaming up to save lives through their annual blood drive on March 9th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the San Diego Automotive Museum. Last year's event resulted in the saving of 35 lives, a testament to the community's generosity and support. As a token of appreciation, all donors will receive a free family membership to the San Diego Automotive Museum, which guarantees free unlimited admission for one year for two adults and four children in the same household as well as two guest passes. While appointments are preferred for participation in this life-saving initiative, walk-ins are also welcome, subject to availability. The San Diego Blood Bank must collect more than 350 units of blood each day to meet the needs of local patients of all ages, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds throughout Southern California. These patients are struggling with life-threatening medical conditions including cancer and other blood disorders, severe burns, organ transplants, emergency surgery, trauma, childbirth complications and more. All blood types are needed. Vanguard Culture presents the ENVZN23: Urban Art Takeover, a visual and performing arts festival that will transform numerous warehouses, industrial spaces, and other urban areas of the Commercial Street corridor in Logan Heights. ENVZN23 will respond to the urban landscape by integrating curated sound and theatrical lighting design throughout. Ariana Warren and Chris Warren’s musical performance will also be inspired by eerie, otherworldly elements. In honor of Dia de los Muertos, longtime resident artist Felix Diaz is leading our efforts to include some Day of the Dead celebrations and practices, too. * The Diaz Trio will perform a series of SONES, a traditional musical form originating from various regions in Mexico and used for events like Dia de los Muertos. During this lively, rhythmic, and danceable music, the audience is invited and encouraged to participate, thus creating a celebratory atmosphere. * We’ll also have an ofrenda (altar) to honor both loved ones we’ve lost from our own S4A community and pioneering Mexican surrealist women artists. * Tamales, Pan de Muerto (sweet bread), and Café de Olla (spiced coffee) will be available for purchase, along with our usual fare of snacks and beverages.
